Our Week, Our School 14/11/25

Dear Parent / Carer,

Welcome to our weekly family and community communication that provides a Headteacher overview of the weeks events and other school-based events and information.

The week that’s been…

It may only have been a 4-day week for our learners, but life in KHS is moving fast wish lots going on!

Last Friday, Friends of Kirkcaldy High School (FoKHS) held their annual Race Night here in KHS. It was a fantastic night as always, with lots of fun and enjoyment. FoKHS play a big role in supporting KHS and it is great to see so many friends join to support us. Huge thanks to FoKHS for this and everything they do!

On Tuesday, KHS fell silent to mark Remembrance 2025. Following our annual Remembrance Assemblies, led by Mrs Harrower and our amazing young people and colleagues, a small group of young people and staff paid their respects at our War Memorial. With the final post played before 11am and the flowers of the forest afterwards, it was another solemn moment to remember all those who have fallen. Well done to Mrs Harrower for preparing and organising our annual event. Well done to all of our brilliant young people for their involvement.

On Wednesday, we held the KHS Careers Fair from 12pm – 5pm here in the assembly hall. We had lots of amazing employers, colleges, universities and advice services on hand to help guide and support our young people with careers after school. Our S4 – 6 learners attended over the course of the day and families were invited in after school. Well done to Ms Smith and all of our partners for a wonderful event.

Today, although young people were off, we had a fantastic morning focussed on learning, teaching and assessment. We invited James Nottingham, author of the Learning Pit, and other books to work with all our teaching staff. The focus was on pace, challenge and differentiation. Colleagues got the chance to listen to research, discuss how this impacts in the classroom and had some clear ideas to take away and try in class. Huge thank you to James for travelling up from the borders.

As ever, if you want to read more about what is happening here at KHS, please follow our blog.

A message from Mrs Hamilton:

“At Kirkcaldy High School, we believe that every achievement – big or small – contributes to a child’s growth and self-confidence, in line with our core value ambition. Whether it is academic, athletic, artistic, or personal, each milestone is an important reflection of your child’s unique talents, hard work, and determination. By tracking these accomplishments, we can provide more personalised encouragement and support, while also celebrating their success as part of our school community.

We kindly ask for your assistance in helping us recognise pupils achievements. The information you provide will allow us to celebrate and acknowledge their hard work in a way that each child requests. We will also be able to incorporate these achievements into our school’s recognition programs, which we believe will help inspire and motivate all students to strive for their best.

The capture of a young person’s achievements will assist the learner to complete a digital profile where learners reflect on their progress, develop key skills, and take ownership of their learning. It supports personalised learning, enhances self-awareness, and provides a clear record for future education or career opportunities, fostering a sense of accomplishment and motivation. To ensure we capture a comprehensive view of their growth, please take a moment to fill out the form.

This form will host up to 3 achievements, if you would like to add more than this please complete another form. Thank you.”

A message from Mrs Hume:

“Please find our most recent Study Support programme for learners.”

Thank you to all families who responded to the HMIE Parent / Carer survey. This has now closed.
