Dear Parent / Carer,
Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log. I hope you and your family are doing well!
The week that’s been…
A slightly less busy this week in KHS but still lots of learning taking place for all our young people.
As ever, I have been out and about in school, dropping into lessons, speaking to our young people and listening to their views about their experiences in KHS. It is always a privilege to see the amazing work going on and it is hard not to be proud of our young people and staff who work hard to ensure the learning experiences of our young people help to improve life chances for all our learners.
On Tuesday, we welcomed parents and carers of S4 into school for the S4 Parent / Carer evening. A great turnout from our families and young people and lots of great conversations taking place around leaning and next steps. A huge thank you to families, young people and staff for a positive night supporting our young people in their learning journey.
Today, a group of S6 young people from KHS helped to support the MacMillan community coffee morning in Capshard Primary. Our young people were praised for the hard work, respect and attitude to supporting this fantastic event.
As ever, if you want to read more about what is happening here at KHS, please follow our blog.
A wee update from Mrs Stewart and our supported learners:
“This week SLD3/4 have been working on a news article based on the Scots’ poem ‘Black Friday.’ We read the poem and deciphered the Scots.’ They have been working on layout, summarising and providing appropriate detail. They have done an excellent job using language appropriate to a newspaper article.
SLD 2 have been out and about practising their photography skills, photographing evidence of a Nature Treasure Hunt during Outdoor Learning. They have also been continuing their work on times tables and applying their knowledge to puzzles and word problems.
In LifeSkills with Mrs Phillips we have been learning how to make excellent cups of tea and in Football with Raith Rovers we have been working on our shooting accuracy.
We would love to share successes out with school through our Wider Achievement Board and Assembly. If your child has had success at home or through activities, could you please email Mrs Stewart with a photo and a description. ”
Lastly, as intimated last week, I will be sharing our revised School Improvement Plan and seeking your views on this. Please keep an eye on your emails over the next few days!
The week ahead…
Next week, learning continues in KHS. We have school photographs taking place on Wednesday 1st October 2025 for young people in S1, S3 and S6.
Enjoy your weekend when it comes!
Best wishes,
Chris McKay
