Dear Parent / Carer,
Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log. I hope you and your family are doing well!
The week that’s been…
It has been a very busy week here at KHS as our young people continue to settle back in to school life with the first full week of learning!
If you have been following our school blog, you will have read stories about our SLD learners making friendship bracelets in RMPS, practical activities in Science, success of Career ready graduates during the summer, Quadcopter success and the celebration of our amazing young people with superstars of the week and pupils of the month! If you haven’t, please check it out.
This week, I have been in and out of many classes. I continue to be impressed by the positive start to the year of our young people. On Thursday, I went around English and Maths classes with Mrs Hamilton (Year Head S3) checking in with learners on what they were learning, gauging their views on the return to school and checking in with uniform which was very impressive! Moreover, I visited all S2, again checking in and ensuring that they were happy and engaged in their learning.
As part of celebrating cultural diversity each month, the focus this month was on China with young people learning some simple phrases in mandarin. Young people also had the chance to put this into practice, receiving good fortune along the way!
Today, colleagues undertook training on using iPads to help support and improve learning and teaching once our young people have their device. We were supported by Fife Council’s Transforming Learning team, taking us through our paces with getting to know the apps we can use, and how we can better support meeting learners needs using a range of digital tools.
The week ahead…
Next week, families of our S1s are invited to come to KHS and visit our English and Maths faculties on Tuesday at 6pm. Families will have the opportunity to hear from staff about the S1 course and get the opportunity to look at some of the resources used. Please let us know if you wish to attend by clicking here. It is an ideal opportunity to get involved in your child(ren)’s learning and was a great success last year!
On Thursday, we will host our first PACK (Parent Council) meeting at 6.30pm online. The agenda and link for this meeting will be shared separately to families. Please come along and listen to what is going on in KHS and take the opportunity to help shape our school community!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend when it comes!
Best wishes,
Chris McKay
