Rector’s Log 20/06/25

Dear Parent / Carer,

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log. I hope you and your family are doing well!

The week that’s been…

What a week! From prizegiving to our P7 transition days, this week has been very busy!

On Tuesday, we celebrated our amazing young people and their fantastic accomplishments at our annual prizegiving event. Celebrating all manner of achievements, there was a focus around Successful Learners, Responsible Citizens, Effective Contributors and Confident Individuals. Also included were our Sports Colour winners. Well done to all our winners! Thank you to everyone who came along to support and to everyone who helped organise a wonderful evening.

Also on Tuesday, 3 S6 learners took part in an online consultation for the Scottish Government on cost of the school day. Along with young people from 3 other schools in Scotland and staff from the Child Poverty Action Group, they took part in discussion about the impact of poverty. They also looked at ways to support young people and families to overcome the effects of poverty. Our young people showed a good understanding of the issue and contributed confidently and effectively to the discussion.

On Wednesday and Thursday, we welcomed all the new S1 for their formal transition days. It was great to see a lot of happy, excited faces as they entered KHS with their S6 buddies on Wednesday. All the P7s got the opportunity to follow their timetable across the two days. All had an input from our school nurse team as part of their day. At break and lunch, the young people took part in lots of active events with our active schools partners. From speaking to several of the young people, they had a great couple of days and are looking forward to their full-time return in August. A special mention on the S6 buddies who did an amazing job supporting the group and helping them throughout – well done!

As always, you can read more about all the goings on in our blog.

A wee update from Ms Black and our Supported Learning department:

“A great and busy week in Supported Learning just as in the rest of the school.  Delighted to be working with our new S1s again with two full days following their new timetable: out to Music, Science, Drama and Social Subjects as well as working with the SLD team in their classrooms.  We hope you had a great time and look forward to seeing you soon.

For our oldest learners Zachary, Levi and Abbi have completed their Next Steps Skill Builder courses with Fife College.  They have been working on this throughout their senior year, and we are super proud of you.  Also, very proud of Jenni and Seanine for a full week of Prefect duties, you are a great help across the school, thank you.  For other learners SLD2 have been learning about Timelines and creating their own, ordering events that are special in their lives that have also been “mixing different acids to create a chemical reaction” (thank you Evan!) in science.  SLD3 have been learning about how the teenage brain develops and the impact and all pupils have been creating thank you cards for the Rotary Club.

Finally, on Thursday we saw KHS represented at DSF Fife Athletics Championships at Pitreavie.  We are super proud of you showing great friendship, championing each other to do well, being supportive, challenging yourselves to attend and to compete, brilliant attitudes team.  The 8 medals our athletes brought home are a bonus and a great achievement, well done Liam, Seanine, Casey, Nathan, Scarlett, Zander, Rio and Adam.”

For the rest of the school, learning continues as we navigate the last couple of weeks of the school year. Next week will be the last Rector’s log of the session with an end of term letter to follow on the final week.
