Rector’s Log 30/05/25

Dear Parent / Carer,

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log. I hope you and your family are doing well!

The week that’s been…

Well…this week has just whizzed past, and I can’t believe we are on the eve of our last holiday before school breaks for summer!

Over the course of this week, we had our final flourish of SQA examinations as the SQA Exam diet finishes for this session. We had final examinations in various subjects from Art and Design on Monday, Biology on Tuesday and finally RMPS today (as well as everything in between)! A massive well done to all learners who undertook examinations over the past 5/6 weeks! You can be rightly proud of your effort, attitude and determination, regardless of the outcome in August.

A huge well done to all staff involved in supporting young people in various forms over the past few weeks and finally to our amazing invigilation team who have supported all young people throughout the examinations. Thank you!

Today, young people in S6 were invited into school to take part in the S6 induction day. Starting off with a welcome back by Mrs Davidson and our Guidance team, we had Head Boy and Head Girl speeches, information about recording achievement, S6 activities and leadership opportunities. Each house group then met with their Guidance team and looked at various areas including expectations, UCAS and other areas.

S6 took part in three workshops before coming back together for the announcement of the Pupil Leadership Team (PLT) / roles and collection of timetables.

Following the announcement of the PLT, I can now share with you our new PLT for session 2025 / 2026 are:

  • Head Girl – Sadie L.
  • Deputes – Briana A. and Emily M.

  • Head Boy – Matthew G.
  • Deputes – Hamish N. and Kacper R.

I am sure you will join me in wishing them all the best for the upcoming session!

As always, you can read more about all the goings on in our blog.

A wee update from Ms Black and our Supported Learning department:

“SLD2 have been busy measuring their sunflowers with Mr Broadway:  6 out of 9 seeds have sprouted and the tallest has grown 3.5cm this week.  With Mrs Phillips in Lifeskills they have been making sandwiches, but the learning has been around giving and listening to instructions.  Learners discussed how the extra detail in instructions and descriptions helps our end goals and how this applies in our sandwich making as well as, say, our creative writing.

SLD4 and 5 have been creating magnet mazes with Miss Currie in Technologies.  Lukas created a whole game with swords and keys to be collected, dead ends and boss to battle at the end!  Across the year groups in Art, we have been looking at shade and tone and in History we have been looking at local Archaeology learning about the Wemyss Caves, the people who lived there, their lives and their drawings.

And alongside the rest of the S6 cohort our learners have been taking part in the S6 induction.  Lots of thinking and discussion about expectations as the most senior pupils in school, our futures and some great activities together thanks to Home Economics, Clued Up and the Army.  Special congratulations to Seanine and Jenni who have been selected as prefects.  They are great role models and will be fantastic in this leadership role, you do us proud all the time ladies.”

House Point totals for the week and session so far are as below:

This weeks total:
Adam Smith – 54
Carlyle – 58
Oswald – 65

Overall total:
Adam Smith – 3297
Carlyle – 3530
Oswald – 3680

Well done to all!

Thank you to all parents / carers / families that contributed to sharing their views on KHS and next steps in our improvement journey. Over 100 responses and lots of feedback for us to consider over the next few weeks as we look to improvements for next session.

Lastly, Mrs Duckett has asked me to share the following about our upcoming school show:

“We’re excited to announce that our school production of Matilda the Music Junior version is coming soon! Tickets are now on sale for performances on June 25th, 26th, and 27th at 7:30pm in our assembly hall. Tickets are £7 for adults and £4 for concessions, available from the school reception with cash payment. Join us for a fun-filled show packed with lively music, inspiring stories, and fantastic performances by our talented students. Don’t miss this entertaining event—be sure to get your tickets early!”

The week ahead…

Next week, we are off for the June Holiday on Monday and there is an INSET day on Tuesday so school will be closed to all young people until Wednesday 4th June. School will reopen as normal at this time.

There will be assemblies on Wednesday, starting with S5/6 Period 1. All young people in S5/6 should go straight to the assembly hall period 1 and timetables will be issued during this time to those who have not yet received them.

Finally, the minutes from the PACK meeting on Tuesday 13th May are available.

I hope you and your family have a great long weekend!

Best wishes,

Chris McKay
