Dear Parent / Carer,
Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log. I hope you and your family are doing well!
The week that’s been…
Another full week here at KHS, with lots of learning taking place.
Learning continues for all our learners in the new S2 – S4. The new timetable and routine are now well established, and our learners are engaging well with their new classes and teachers. I visited most classes yesterday and it was great to see so many learners engaging positively in their work. Teachers have been busy too, with learning environments being updated to reflect learners work and a touch of spring cleaning too.
Examinations continue for those in the old S4-6 and a very full week of examinations it was also! Spanish, Dance, French, Practical Cookery, Business, Politics, Modern Studies all completed! Learners continue to do well, and their stamina must be commended. One more week to go!
Yesterday, some of our learners organised and delivered a wee stall of all things Scottish in support of our work to raise the profile of the diversity that exists within our school. Tasters of Shortbread, Irn Bru and other Scottish snacks were available and many of our young people got into the spirit of a quick ‘Hiya’! More to come in future weeks, exploring other cultures that are part of our amazing community. Well done to the group for a fabulous event! Please see the letter we sent to various businesses seeking support with this initiative. Please share with anyone you feel could support also.
We also had a group of new S4 learners attend Abertay University on Wednesday as part of the First Chances group, and today a number of young people took part in a very successful Sports Day with the sun on show for all!
As always, you can read more about all the goings on in our blog.
A wee update from Ms Black and our Supported Learning department:
“A great week in Supported Learning with feedback from learners that they are really enjoying working across the teaching team and I know we are enjoying working with all learners as well. Thank you to the parents that have shared their feedback and glad it is working for your young people.
Across all year groups we have been looking at the SHANARRI indicators; what they mean to us, what that looks like in school and how we, the staff and school, could improve. It’s been fantastic to hear the rich discussions and the lovely ways that our young people feel safe, healthy, respected. We have also been thinking about how meaningfully our rights are protected and embedded in school and in life in Scotland.
This week saw us join the Trade Hub construction course gaining skills and experience in the workplace and we have also had Team KHS participate in the Fife Cross-Country Championships. They were fabulous ambassadors and also had fantastic results:
- Gold – Liam 🥇
- Gold – Seanine 🥇
- Silver – D 🥈
- 4th - Zander 🏅
- 5th - Anish 🏅
- Mid pack finish for Dylan which is something he should be very proud of in his first sporting event. 🏅
Really proud of you team for your commitment to training, the positive attitudes and great running, well done!”
Mrs Hume is on the quest to find out more about our past alumni. Mrs Hume asks:
“We are looking to connect with our wider community by asking former pupils about their lives after school and their achievements. We plan to create a display with this information and use it to inspire our current young people, showing them that there are many and varied paths to success. If you or someone you know is a former KHS pupil and would be happy to share details of your experiences in life and work since leaving school, please complete the form.”
I have also been asked to share a link with you highlighting the Lang Toun Festival – and information about becoming a host family (information poster 1, information poster 2).
The week ahead…
Next week is the last week with examinations.
Our new S6 are invited in on Friday for their induction into S6.
We also have some transition days taking place for some of our new S1s.
I hope you and your family have a great weekend!
Best wishes,
Chris McKay
