Rector’s Log 23/02/24

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s log. I hope you and your family are doing well.

The week that’s been…

It has been a busy start to the new half term, with young people involved in a range of opportunities in and out of school.

Last week, we had groups of young people out on amazing educational trips to Iceland and Paris. From speaking to the young people and staff, and from the pictures that I have seen, it has been a fantastic experience for all. Massive thanks to all families who have supported their young person to attend, and also to all staff who volunteered and supported the trip. It is great to hear our young people representing KHS so well – well done to all!

As ever, you can read more about these trips, and other adventures, on our Blog.

This week was the beginning of the next assessment window for young people in S4-6. Although these assessments are primarily focussed on S5/6 (S4 had their window in December), some S4s are continuing with assessments too. It has been a busy week with lots of assessments taking place. Well done to all our young people who have risen to the challenge and continue with the hard graft going forward to their SQA examinations.

We also had young people in S4 and S5 taking part in course choice days, meeting with their guidance teacher and being supported in choosing their next courses for session 2024/25. Next week will be the turn of S2. Thank you to the guidance team for their support with this too.

Yesterday, we had a group of S2 students taking part in the First Chances programme. This was focussed on Tourism and the impact on our environment. Again, more information can be found in the blog.

Some staffing news for you now…Congratulations to Mrs Thompson who was successful today at interview for the permanent PTC English post. Mrs Thompson has been the acting PTC since October 2022 and takes this on a permanent basis following Mrs Hume’s move to permanent DHT. Well done!

The week ahead…

Next week we continue with the assessment window for S4-6, with the last assessments taking place on Thursday.

Young people in S2 will have their course choice meetings with their guidance teachers. Please make sure they check outside of guidance for their time.

Best wishes,

Chris McKay
