Respect for Self, Others, and Learning

Rector’s Log 26/01/24

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s log. I hope you and your family are doing well.

The week that’s been…

It has been a full-on week here at KHS – time is flying past!

This week all young people attended house assemblies Monday – Wednesday. During the assemblies, young people learned about our new anti-bullying procedures, how to report bullying, raising awareness about the dangers of drugs and were invited to share their views on our proposed curriculum and school day changes. As ever, our young people listened, interacted and dealt with some serious subject matter in a calm and mature manner.

On Wednesday, Mrs Gibb, Mr Broadway and I visited Fair Isle and Valley primary schools as part of our P7 roadshows. We presented to prospective P7s and their families, discussing the differences between primary and secondary and answering all of the burning questions of the day – from how we support young people through the transition to how good are the lunches! It was great to meet the P7s and their families and we look forward to continuing that great partnership work in the weeks and months ahead.

As ever, you can catch up on more news and recent activities at KHS through our online blog.

Lastly, Ms Black, PT Supported Learning shares the following update on our learners in Supported Learning:

“In the Supported Learning department our senior pupils have been looking towards their college transitions and working hard on their upcoming qualifications. Many of our S2/3/4 pupils are working towards qualifications in Independent Living Skills – Going Shopping and Interacting in the Community. Our pupils have been walking to Asda on a Friday afternoon to purchase any shopping required at home. This is a joint home/school activity and is preparing pupils for independent living skills.

In our S1 SL class we continue to work towards the John Muir award and they were extremely resilient in the face of some interesting weather of late! It has also been really lovely to hear them looking up to their peers and thinking of their futures. Over the next few weeks we have some Disability Sports Fife events coming up and we look forward to sharing that information with you shortly.”

The week ahead…

On Wednesday we have our S5/6 Parent / Carer Evening in school from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

Mr Broadway, Mrs Gibb and I continue the KHS P7 roadshows at Torbain and Capshard on Wednesday also.

As a result of these events, and the roadshow continuing next week, there will not be a Rectors drop-in on Wednesday 24th and 31st January. Apologies for any inconvenience this causes.

Please don’t forget that our consultation on Curriculum and School day finishes on Friday 2nd February 2024. Please ensure you have provided your views.

Best wishes,

Chris McKay

Rector
