Respect for Self, Others, and Learning

Rector’s Log 08/12/23

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s log. I hope you and your family are doing well.

The week that’s been…

It’s been another fast-paced week here at KHS with lots going on. This weeks log is shorter than normal due to the update letter sent on Wednesday.

On Monday, and throughout the week, young people in S4-6 have been completing assessments as part of their ongoing learning and assessment towards National Qualifications. This week, young people in S4 have undertaken assessments in the hall in Biology, English, Business, Fashion, Classics, Physics, Music, Maths, Modern Studies, Engineering Science and Dance. Young people in S5/6 have undertaken a range of assessments also, mostly in class. Well done to all involved. As ever, our young people’s conduct and attitude has been first rate!

Young people in S2 and S4 continue to complete mock course choices through Social Education. Young people in S5 were invited to the assembly hall on Wednesday afternoon to take part in completing their mock course choices for next session. When we return after the holiday, young people will continue to be supported in planning for their subjects next year with input through assemblies, Social Education classes, Skills Development Scotland input and working with their Guidance teacher.

On Wednesday, I emailed all parents / carers with an update letter. This letter provided a range of updates on a number of key areas: School update, curriculum change, course choice process, anti-bullying work and family engagement amongst others. I trust that this was useful and provided you with a clear sense of how things are in KHS and the areas that we are focussed on continued improvement. If you can, please complete the survey to inform our next anti-bullying policy.

The week ahead…

Next week, young people in S4-6 continue with their assessment window with young people in S1-3 continuing with their learning.

Next Friday, parents / carers of young people in S1-3 will gain access to the second tracking report of the session.

I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend when it comes.

Best wishes,

Chris McKay
