The week that’s been…

A very busy week here at KHS with many fantastic opportunities for our young people.

On Tuesday, KHS held our yearly careers fair. Young people from KHS and other school across Kirkcaldy had the opportunity to visit the many stalls and find out further information about future careers and opportunities after school. The event was well attended and parents / carers also got an opportunity to visit after school. Thank you to Mr. Dick and Mrs. Davidson for organising the event and supporting our young people.

On Wednesday, S3 took part in the STEM ‘Speed dating’ event. This event gave young people the opportunity to meet with various STEM leaders from academia and industry to talk about careers in STEM based areas. Each young person met with a range of STEM leaders to discuss and ask questions on their field of expertise. As ever, our young people were a credit to our community. Our visitors were very impressed by the maturity and insight of our young people. Well done to all, including Dr. Murray who organised and supported the event.

On Thursday, we invited parents and carers to KHS for the S3 Parent / Carer evening. The evening was very well attended and lots of discussion taking place about learning and support for ongoing improvement. Again, thank you to all who attended and I hope it was of value to you and your child(ren).

Today, we had a group of young people entertain shoppers at ASDA, spreading some Christmas cheer! In the words of Mrs Duckett:

“Our musicians had a freezing but magical start to Christmas this morning!

56 KHS musicians entertained the community of family, friends and shoppers at ASDA for over an hour this morning and I have to say that every single one of them were superstars! We couldn’t be prouder of their musicianship, enthusiasm, impeccable behaviour and Christmas cheer!”

Thank you to the music department and our instructors who organised and supported this event.

The week ahead…

Next week is the beginning of our first assessment window. Young people in S4 who are undertaking qualifications in National 5 will be completing these assessments in the hall. Information has already been shared with young people and families.

For young people in S5/6, the vast majority of assessments will take place in class, with no more than 1 assessment each day for most.

Please be aware that there is no study leave (per Fife Council policy) and young people should attend all classes when not undertaking their exams. All young people should continue to attend school.
