Kirkcaldy High School

Respect for Self, Others, and Learning

Rector’s Log 23/06/23

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log, I hope you and your family are well.

This is the last Rector’s log of this session. I will email parents / carers next Friday with an end of session letter.

The week that’s been…

It has continued to be busy here at KHS, although slightly slower than last week!

Last Friday, we had the Prom for our S6 class of 2022/23. It was a lovely affair, with our young people having a fantastic time at the Dean Park Hotel. The meal was fantastic and everyone was up and enjoying a dance as the night went on. Well done to all concerned and we wish them well as they leave KHS and on to their next journey. A huge thank you to Miss Lipton and the Prom committee for a very well organised and stylish night.

On Wednesday this week, we had young people from our Travel and Tourism / Events classes attending a range of events and classes at Fife College. They took part in the Travel and Tourism takeover with input from the Deer Centre, Pizza making, Air Host training and Virtual Reality sections. They also took part in some Barista training and World host event where they learned about key to high quality customer service. Fife College have offered some flexible study going forward, with sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays 2pm – 4pm. They have also offered for some of the HNC Hospitality students to visit KHS and speak to those who are interested about the course and potential careers. Thank you to Mr Caldwell for organising and supporting our young people to College.

Today, we had 24 S6 pupils spending the day completing the Emergency First Aid at Work SQA Level 6 qualification. This has been a great experience for the young people and has developed valuable skills for life and work. Thank you very much to Friends of Kirkcaldy High School for funding this opportunity.

Finally, all our young people continue to learn and undertake study in their subjects. It is important that all young people continue to attend school until the end of term to ensure that they continue to progress and achieve their potential.

The week ahead…

Next week is our last week of term. School finishes on Friday 30th June at 3.15pm for the summer holidays. Friday is also a non-uniform day. As ever, we will be asking those who can to donate to support our ongoing work with many charities and community organisations.

I would like to take this time to thank everyone associated with KHS for their support over the session. As you will be aware, this is my first session here at KHS and I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment. I look forward to seeing you all again next session.

I will write to all parents / carers next Friday with our end of term letter and some updates on staffing.

I hope you have an enjoyable weekend

Best wishes

Chris McKay
