Kirkcaldy High School

Respect for Self, Others, and Learning

Rector’s Log 24/03/23

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log, I hope you and your family are well.

The week that’s been…

We have had another busy but productive week here in KHS with young people undertaking a range of learning activities and assessments.

Today, Carrie Lindsay (Executive Director of Education and Children’s Services for Fife Council) visited KHS. Carrie had a brief tour of KHS, visiting our Inclusion Hub, Supported Learning base and speaking to young people who were undertaking First Aid training through the Kirkcaldy Summit programme. We thoroughly enjoyed having Carrie visit and our young people were an absolute credit to you, and our school.

On Tuesday, we had a busy and very full evening with young people and families attending the S1 Parents evening. There was a great buzz around the school and it was fantastic to see such a large turnout of parents / carers and young people.

We have also had another busy week with young people across S1 – S6 undertaking assessments in a range of subjects. We hope that the learning conversations and next steps support the progress of all our learners.

As always, a reminder of the latest news from DYW – All pupils have been shown how to access the DYW Padlet on the school website, which is updated regularly with opportunities including work experience, in school opportunities as well as apprenticeships and job opportunities.

REMEMBER – It is good to gain experience as well as qualifications in school to make your CV and applications stand out.
If you are looking for something that is not advertised on the padlet – please see Mrs Whyte who will help out.

Fife College is throwing open its doors for three Open Days at the end of March. Further info is available on the Fife College website.

As mentioned last week, we are seeking your views around school reports that you receive for your child. Please can you complete this short survey. This information will help to inform how we continue to support you and our young people in understanding their progress and next steps for learning.

The week ahead…

Next week is the last week of term and school closes to young people at 3.15pm on Thursday 30th March 2023 for the Easter Break. Young people return to school on Monday 17th April. We wish all families and young people a restful and enjoyable holiday when it comes.

The next Rector’s Log will be on the 21st April but I will send an end of term letter to all parents / carers on Thursday 30th March.

Finally, please find a letter attached to the groupcall from Mrs Davidson with important information for S4-6 around SQA Examinations including key dates for study leave.

I hope you have an enjoyable weekend

Best wishes

Chris McKay
