Kirkcaldy High School

Respect for Self, Others, and Learning

Rector’s Log 09/12/22

Welcome to this weeks Rectors Log, I hope you and your family are well.

The week that’s been…

It has been another quick but productive week here at KHS.

On Wednesday, we held our first Christmas concert here at KHS since prior to COVID. It was an amazing event and our young people were absolutely tremendous. We also held a Christmas Fayre, organised by Mr Walsh’s Events Management class. The buzz around the fayre was great and we were delighted to see so many people enjoying both the Fayre and the Concert. Thank you to all young people, staff and families who played a huge part in its success.

As mentioned at the concert, we are currently supporting Kirkcaldy Food bank by collecting donations here at KHS. Please see below for a message from Mrs Morris about this:

Mrs Morris’ S3 Enrichment class are collecting donations on behalf of Kirkcaldy Foodbank. We have already received very generous donations from our staff and pupils, thank you so much!

We are hoping to have a final push next week and to hand over more donations to the Foodbank on Monday 19th December. If you can spare any non-perishable items such as a tin of soup, toiletries or anything that can support a family in your local community this Christmas we would be very grateful.

All donations can be handed in to the S6 prefect base opposite the main reception area on the ground floor of the school.

As ever, a reminder about our DYW padlet from Mrs Whyte:

The Padlet has been updated with more local jobs – lots of local places are taking on Christmas temps. Remember the first place to start with applying for a job is to write a CV. There is a great guide on my World of Work to help with this. Speak to the Careers Advisors if you are not sure about where to start. If you are in S5 and starting to think about applying to University, in particular Edinburgh University – please let Mrs Whyte know as there is a great opportunity coming up!

We also held year group assemblies for almost all year groups this week (S4 is re-scheduled to Monday due to the Industrial Action on Thursday). S2 focussed on the upcoming course choice interviews to help prepare for the mock choices. Our senior pupils were focussed on the upcoming prelims and key information for this. All S5/6 pupils were given a paper copy to help support them plan their study.

The week ahead…

Assemblies next week will be house assemblies with a festive them. We will also have some young people going to the Pantomime.

On Thursday, the re-scheduled S4 Parents Evening will take place here at KHS. We look forward to welcoming young people and families for this important event.

I hope you and your family enjoy the weekend.

Best wishes

Chris McKay
