Rector’s Log 23/09/22

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s log. I hope you and your family are doing well.

The week that’s been…

This week has seen the first of our S1 groups attend Fordell Firs for an outdoor development course. The young people have had a great time developing social skills, teamwork and confidence. Next week, the next groups of S1 will head to Fordell Firs and hopefully continue the positivity and development of key skills.

We also have an update to our Pupil Leadership Team. Congratulations to our Head Boy, Harry Turner who has just secured an apprenticeship as a mechanic with CB Autoservice (start date 15 Sept) and has now left school. As a result of this unexpected departure, we have reviewed our team and we are delighted to announce the following changes:

  • Blake McBride, previously first Depute will now step up as Head Boy
  • Hassan Mahmood, previously Depute will now become First Depute
  • Callum Husband, will remain as Depute
  • Cian Lister, will join the team as Depute

Ellie Ness (Head Girl), Rebecca Greig (First Depute), Morgan Cameron (Depute) and Eilidh Drummond (Depute) remain in post as before. We wish Harry all the best and look forward to working with the revised Pupil Leadership Team.

Continuing with this theme, we would also like to express our pride and support for Leon Keddie and Callum Husband in S6. Leon and Callum played for Scotland’s U17’s Futsal squad as well as the U21’s last week. It was an intense week with 9 matches in 5 days in very hot conditions. They finished 3rd in the U17’s and 2nd in the U21’s and scored a few goals for Scotland. They developed so much as players and made friends with players from around the world. What an amazing experience for them both and memories made for a lifetime. Well done to both.

Following on from this, we had a group of around 14 pupils attend Scotland vs Ukraine on Wednesday night at Hampden Park, Glasgow. All enjoyed the experience. Thank you to the staff who organised and supported this event.

There are a number of extra-curricular events taking place every week across the school. We will send a groupcall to all parents with this information. Please continue to keep an eye on the Blue Bulletin for further updates.

As always, Mrs Whyte has an update around DYW. This week’s Padlet has been updated, there are lots of local businesses looking for employees – Fife Ice Arena, Spiral Weave, Costa, Fife Leisure.

Applications for apprenticeships have just opened at Babcock International – with a range of roles available. Other apprenticeships include administration, engineering and shipbuilding. A date for the diary is 29th November where there will be over 30 local employers attending our Careers Fair.

ver the past few weeks, we have also been consulting with Parents / carers around Parents’ Evenings and the School Improvement and Pupil Equity Fund plans. Thank you to all who have replied and also for the constructive feedback around these. The School Improvement and Pupil Equity Fund plans will be posted on the school website along with the Standards and Quality Report from 3rd October. If you still wish to feedback on these, a link was sent to all parent / carer emails at the beginning of the week. Please feedback to us by next Friday if you wish to comment on these plans.

The week ahead…

Our S1s continue to attend Fordell Firs with the next groups heading there Monday – Wedensday.

We have our first, in person, Parents’ Evening for S3 taking place here at KHS on Wednesday 28th September.

On Friday 30th September, S4-6 tracking reports will be issued to parents / carers.

Best wishes

Chris McKay
