Kirkcaldy High School

Respect for Self, Others, and Learning

Rector’s Log 26/08/22

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s log. I hope you and your family are doing well.

The week that’s been…

It’s been another busy week here at KHS with lots of amazing learning taking place across the school.

On Tuesday, we had a group of S5/6 young people attend the Edinburgh Book festival. This was followed by another group of students attending on Wednesday. All had a fantastic time and enjoyed the festival.

In school we had some colleagues from Abertay University visit to support S5 and S6 pupils. S5 pupils were involved in the ‘Lift-off’ programme and S6 had a session around applying to Higher Education.

This week, we also held our first House assemblies of the session for all young people. The theme was around getting to know the house team, including house captains, and focussing on our core values of respect for self, others, and learning.

I have also been around the school this week, visiting lots of classes and speaking to our young people. The young people are a credit to the school and to their families. On Tuesday, I visited S3 classes with Mrs Hamilton. We were bowled over by both the uniform standard and the respectfulness of the year group. On Thursday, I also visited S1 classes who are settling in well to life here at KHS. Most were in PE prior to my visit, and I had a few ties that required to be tied!

Mrs Whyte has asked me to share with you the DYW padlet. This padlet has lots of great information and it is an opportunity for young people to access information about destinations after school, career information and support. Please click here for more information.

The week ahead…

Next week, we will continue to focus on uniform standards and those core values of respect for self, others, and learning. I will visit S2 classes with Mr Young (Year Head) and S4 classes with Ms Diamond (Year Head).

Lastly, I will be sending an online form to you next week to seek your views on Parents’ Evenings for this session. As you will be aware, the S3 Parents’ Evening is due to take place, online, on Wednesday 28th September 2022. I am seeking your views around Parents’ Evenings and whether we should return to in person nights or remain online.

I hope you have an enjoyable weekend.

Best wishes

Chris McKay
