Rector’s Log Extra 19/6/21

Dear Parent/Carer

Sorry to be in contact so soon after yesterday’s “log” but there have been a couple of developments and updates. Fortunately, it’s not another Covid alert at this time.

Firstly, given Scotland’s magnificent nil nil victory at Wembley, we’ve decided to allow pupils to “dress down” with a Scottish theme on Tuesday to mark the final group match against Croatia. It won’t be compulsory, but Scotland football shirts, tartan etc can be worn. I’m so glad that my pessimism about Friday night wasn’t justified!

We’ll also have our usual charity dress down on Thursday and we’ll take donations (£1 suggested) to go to the runner up charities in our “Youth Philanthropy Initiative” final which takes place on Tuesday. YPI is a terrific project, sponsored by the Wood Group, and £3000 will be donated to a local charity deemed the winners by our judges following “pitches” made online by KHS pupils. More news of this next week.

Also next week, Mr Young and I will be visiting local primaries to distribute printed copies of our Prospectus and present our new intake with a special commemorative KHS pen. We’ll explain that all S1 will receive a copy of their new timetable in the post in the first week of August, at the same time as other pupils.

I mentioned new teaching staff yesterday and there is good news on that front too. It looks like we will have extra staffing in Physics and History too. More news on that soon.

As it’s the last week of term, we will require all pupils to keep a note of their school contacts, just in case they have to be involved in “track and trace”. All pupils will receive a wee record sheet on Monday morning to keep a note of who they sit next to each class. On that theme, please do remember to help your son or daughter to take another Covid test on Sunday. It helps us keep safe.

All the very best

Derek Allan
