Dear Parent/Carer
I hope that this finds you in good fettle. We’ve certainly had an active week in school. It’s been “Health Week” with taster sessions in lots of different sports and activities as well as an inter-house sports and athletics competition. Sessions included body-combat, karate, hockey, Aussie rules football, floorball, dance, tae-kwon-do, gymnastics and football training with Raith Rovers. Many thanks to all the local sports clubs and coaches who helped out. We also had Primary 6 Health Day with 200 young visitors from local schools. And, of course, today is our Activities Day with trips out to take part in trampolining, whitewater rafting, theme park activities, crazy golf, a trip to Butterfly World and the dry ski slope at Edinburgh, snowboarding, paintball, golf or bowling. Phew!
Parents of S1 will be expecting school reports to be issued today. I must apologise for a slight delay. These will now be posted home early next week after we had a few computer issues to overcome. Please do provide feedback, check the attendance page and amend the “Annual Data Check” form as necessary. Much appreciated.
For parents of S3, please be reminded that it will be the Parent/Carer evening on Monday 23 May and pupils have a booking schedule for completion. I hope to see many of you on the evening. The S3 Reports should be available for Friday 3 June.
The other highlights next week include Monday at lunchtime, when a group of 8 Second Year boys will have their heads shaved after raising almost £2000 in sponsorship pledges. This is in aid of Cancer Research UK and I must thank Urban Barbers, Templehall, for their support with this.
We have recently sent home confirmation letters to our new Prefects. Our new team will comprise 66 Prefects at the outset and next Friday we will hold further interviews for the Head Boy and Girl, and Depute positions. The outcomes will be announced at our Sports Colours and Prefect Presentation ceremony after school on Wednesday 8 June. Family members of Prefects and all those receiving a presentation are very welcome to join us at 4pm. Our special guest is Lesley MacDonald, former pupil and captain of the Scotland netball team.
Before then we have a couple of national competition finals to enjoy. On Wednesday 1 June, KHS will take on Fernhill Independent School for Girls from Glasgow and Speyside High School from Aberlour in the Scottish final of the Crown Office Procurator Fiscal Public Speaking Competition. This takes place at the High Court in Parliament House, Edinburgh. Then, on Friday 3 June, our Go4SET team take part in the national final at Glasgow City Chambers. This is a Science and Technology competition and the winners qualify for the UK finals in Birmingham. Good luck to all our teams.
Next week’s hot dish menu is; Monday: Spaghetti Bolognese with garlic bread. Tuesday: Roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and mash. Wednesday: Macaroni cheese with chips or garlic bread, Thursday: Steak pie and potatoes. Friday: Fish and chips. We also have our pasta, sandwich, soup and salad options too.
Also, our exams next week are Monday: Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies, Tuesday: Physics, Wednesday: Drama, Thursday: Spanish and Friday: Business Management and Computing Science. Please check our website or “Twitter” for details of our last minute “masterclasses” held before each exam.
Very best wishes to you. Please do be in touch if we can assist with anything.
