At Kelty Primary School, we are committed to creating nurturing classroom environments where every child feels safe, valued and ready to learn. Positive relationships, emotional wellbeing and a sense of belonging are at the heart of our practice.
Classes use a range of nurturing approaches to support wellbeing and learning. These include daily emotional check-ins, visual supports and routines, Emotion Works activities, Calm Corners, Circle Time, and opportunities for pupils to share worries, thoughts or concerns through Worry Jars and “I Wish My Teacher Knew” boxes. We also use Fix It Folders to help children reflect on disagreements, repair relationships and develop positive problem-solving skills.
Through these approaches, children learn to recognise and express emotions, build resilience, develop self-regulation skills and understand how to seek support when needed. They also provide valuable opportunities for staff to understand pupils’ experiences and respond appropriately, ensuring that every child feels heard, supported and ready to learn.
We encourage families to talk with their child about the wellbeing supports available in school and the importance of sharing feelings, solving problems positively and seeking help when needed. Working together, we can support children to thrive both emotionally and academically.
