Dalgety Bay Primary School Launches its Walking Club

Pupils at Dalgety Bay Primary School were visited by Mark Beaumont, the record breaking long-distance cyclist when he came along to help launch the school’s very own Walking Club.  Mark was joined by Denis Canavan, President of The Ramblers Association Scotland, at the official launch ceremony in front of the whole school.  Mark and Denis spoke to pupils about their experiences of walking and cycling and the benefits they had gained from these activities.

Over 200 pupils have signed up to join the club which is an incentive scheme to encourage walking to and from school.  The aims of the club include promoting daily exercise, reducing traffic congestion around the school and encouraging environmental awareness.

Pupils who join the club are given a badge and a passport.  They then collect points for each journey walked or cycled to and from school.  When their first passport has been completed, pupils collect a bronze star badge, followed by silver and then gold on completion of the next two passports. Class incentives have also been built into the scheme.
