Global Partnership

Global School Partnerships promote partnerships between schools in the United Kingdom and schools in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The programme aims to raise young people’s awareness of global development issues and equip them with the skills and knowledge to become active global citizens.

Our school is involved in the following ways:

On Friday 4th September, the school welcomed ten Malawians who are visiting Dalgety Bay as part of the town’s link with Engcongolweni.   The group included teachers from schools in Ekwendeni and Engcongolweni, and they were very interested to see how schools in Scotland are set up.  They toured the school and then visited different classrooms to get a closer look at the Scottish education system.

Nicholas Chihana, a Head Teacher, spoke to the children about the strong historical links between Scotland and Malawi, primarily due to the work of David Livingstone in the 19th century.  We also discovered that Malawi is a very poor country, and that the schools are short of teachers and resources.  We discovered that many school buildings are in a poor state of repair, with no furniture, running water or electricity.  We were delighted to hear the guests sing to us during Assembly, and to see how much they enjoyed joining us for school dinners!

As a result of the visit, Dalgety Bay Primary School is looking at the possibility of setting up a sustainable link with Kaluhoro Primary School, which is situated about 4 km from Engcongolweni.  We hope to set up a two-way link which will benefit both communities.  Dalgety Bay PS will send back information with the visiting group introducing our school and community to the staff and pupils of Kaluhoro.  We hope that the staff and pupils there will accept our offer to join in a partnership which will benefit both schools and their wider communities.
