The Fife Health Promoting Schools Accreditation scheme provides a framework for schools to develop a structured, focused approach to health initiatives and gain recognition for, and feedback on, their achievements. The key characteristics of a Health Promoting School are
- Environment
- Ethos
- Learning & Teaching
- Leadership & Management.
Underpinning all these characteristics is Partnership Working which is essential to all HPS development.
Dalgety Bay Primary School was one of the first schools in Fife to be awarded ‘Health Promoting Schools’ accreditation in 2006. At that time we focused on:
- Environment – The school environment is welcoming, orderly and attractive with good displays promoting health related messages. It is clean, free of litter and signs of vandalism.
- Ethos – Pupils take an active role in the decision making process and the school values curricular and extra-curricular achievement of pupils.
Health and Wellbeing continue to be a high priority for all in school with focus fortnights related to health topics being held throughout the year. We are now working towards our Phase 3 accreditation and hope to achieve this in the next session.
In school, children will be encouraged to choose healthy options at lunch.
