Rights Respecting School

Level 1 Award

Dalgety Bay PS is currently working towards the Level 1 Award as a Rights Respecting School. All classes have a Class Charter (see photo gallery for examples) showing the rights that the children have identified as most relevant to their classroom. Each class has also discussed how staff and pupils respect these rights.

Each week during Assembly the children are discussing different rights as outlined in the UNCRC and how they apply to their daily lives. We are working hard to ensure all pupils in our school are aware of their rights, and also to ensure that they share this learning with their families and in the wider school community.

Each class now has a Rights Respecting School Representative. They have had an initial meeting and are busy completing an audit within their individual classes to decide where we are and what our next steps need to be.  Similarly, teachers are carrying out an audit of classroom practice and teaching and learning, identifying areas of good practice and development needs.

Parental involvement is being sought to contribute to the Steering Group which will take forward the Action Plan drawn up as a result of the audits. We hope to be assessed in term 4 for our Level 1 Award, when we will have the opportunity to show how we have managed to embed RESPECT into our school. Here are some of the class charters showing the articles and statements the pupils have chosen.
