Nurture is an approach we are firmly embedding in our school. It is one of listening, of compassion, of seeing the whole picture and allowing children to enjoy new experiences in a safe and comfortable environment..
We use the 6 Nurture Principles to guide our approach, these are:
1. CHILDREN’S LEARNING IS UNDERSTOOD DEVELOPMENTALLY – everybody is included no matter his or her stage of learning.
2. THE IMPORTANCE OF NURTURE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF WELL BEING – when we are cared for, happy and secure, we learn!
3. ALL BEHAVIOUR IS COMMUNICATION – our teachers always listen to what we are trying to say and try to understand the reasons for all behaviours
4. THE CLASSROOM OFFERS A SAFE BASE – we feel safe and looked after in our den.
5. LANGUAGE IS A VITAL MEANS OF COMMUNICATION – We learn to be confident speakers so that we can express how we are feeling and what we need
6.THE IMPORTANCE OF TRANSITION IN CHILDREN’S LIVES – we know what is going to happen and when. Our teachers follow routine.
