Whilst we will always do our best to keep the school open, circumstances out with our control mean we need to close, sometimes with little notice. Sometimes, it may be easier to make a decision very early or there is a blanket decision across Fife. But sometimes the picture is not as clear as that: the situation with the weather evolves rapidly and parents may get a message close to 9am or even during the day to say the school needs to close.
The safety of staff, pupils and parents takes priority. There may be times when we can open but only with much fewer staff due to staff not able to get in for any reason– we may then need to make a decision on sending children home. We may send a message to let you know this and you may wish to keep your children at home until there is a further update.
If you wake up to snow fall or any other type of severe weather (including if there is a red weather warning), please do the following:
- Please do keep your child within your care until you know for sure that school is open at 9am – don’t drop them and go.
- Look out for messages from the school which will be on Groupcall.
- Be prepared that school may close at short notice and have a contingency for picking your child up.
- Please don’t call the school office to ask for information, it will come out via Groupcall text when we are able and lots of phone calls coming into the office can slow this down.
We will communicate with you around activities that children can do which will either be directed by your class teacher or through the school. Please note your class teacher may be teaching in another school close to home in an emergency. Communication currently is given by SeeSaw for P1-4 and P5-7 teachers use Groupcall. P5-7 will use Glow Teams for setting work.
