Preparing for Primary 1: Lunch with Our Buddies

Our pre-school children recently enjoyed a very exciting milestone as part of their transition to Primary 1  – having lunch in the school dining hall with their P6 buddies.

This experience gave the children an opportunity to become familiar with the lunch hall environment, routines and expectations in a relaxed and supportive way. From carrying trays and choosing their lunch to sitting with friends and joining in conversations, the children embraced the experience with confidence and enthusiasm.

Our buddies played an important role in helping the children feel safe, welcome and included. They supported them patiently throughout lunchtime, encouraging independence while also offering reassurance when needed. It was wonderful to see the caring relationships already beginning to develop between the older and younger children.

Transition experiences like these are invaluable in helping children feel prepared and excited for the move to Primary 1. By becoming familiar with different areas of the school and building positive connections with staff and pupils, children can approach this next step with growing confidence.

We are very proud of how well all of the children managed during their first lunch hall experience and we look forward to many more transition opportunities in the weeks ahead.
