Calming Techniques Free resources to help children and adults with sleep, meditations, mindfulness and more. https://www.calm.com/blog/take-a-deep-breath Can’t Talk Write: helping young people to express how they feel This toolkit is evidence based and promotes writing as a means of supporting young people to improve their mental wellbeing. It helps them feel calmer and supports them to articulate their thoughts and feelings. There are two toolkits: one for young people aged 11-18 years old and one for adults working with young people. Each toolkit includes printable activities and ideas to get young people writing. Writing is a great way to express thoughts and feelings. Getting things down on paper can really help to make sense of problems, too. https://www.actionforchildren.org.uk/what-we-do/children-young-people/mental-health/cant-talk-write/?utm_source=corporate&utm me-dium=referral&utm_campaign=&utm_content=cant-talk-write-royal-mail

CLPL for Teachers

Support your own mental health and wellbeing to better help others in these challenging times by learning how to put your own ‘oxygen mask’ on first.

This course is free to colleagues in the FV&WL RIC but does require a commitment to attend the full 12 hour online training programme which consists of 8 sessions in total, 2 sessions per week.  The series begins w/c 18th May with two options for attendance: Mondays & Wednesdays 2 – 3.30pm; or Tuesday & Thursdays, 2 – 3.30pm.

The opportunity is open to all Early, Primary, Secondary and CLD staff and would be especially beneficial for school and establishment leaders.  In particular, promoted staff with a responsibility for PSE would also benefit from attending.  An open mind and willingness to embrace a fresh approach to thinking about wellbeing is welcomed.

Looking after yourself at homehttps://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p087dmvt

Strategies and tips for looking after yourself and being productive while staying at home with elite sports nutritionist James Collins. Never before have so many of us been stuck at home, with no clear idea how long we’ll be indoors. Coronavirus has upended our lives in a dramatic way, and the challenge now is to make the best of what is clearly a very difficult situation. This episode’s guest is James Collins, a performance nutritionist who has worked in elite sport for many years. He’s been a key member of Team GB at three Olympics, was Arsenal’s head of nutrition for seven seasons and has worked with the national football teams of England and World Cup winners France. He now also works with top music and entertainment performers and businesses too. In this episode of DTMTS, James talks to Simon about looking after yourself and still being productive while stuck at home. James focuses on several key areas including how to set up your home environment, the importance of routine, the importance of getting a daily dose of exercise, setting boundaries, ‘checking in with yourself’ and some sleep strategies. James also explains how to think about your nutrition and plan your meals, even when you can’t get hold of the things you normally want.

SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) E-Module for Teachers

A introductory module on mental health for teachers

In a recent survey, teachers told SAMH that they didn’t feel that they had received sufficient training in mental health to allow them to carry out their role.

Which is why we’ve created ‘We all have mental health: an introduction for teachers’, to provide teachers with an introduction to mental health; equip them with the skills and knowledge to recognise and respond to a pupil who is experiencing a mental health problem; and lead a conversation about positive mental health.

SHINE resources for Young People, Parents/Carers and School Staff

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, SHINE has put together some simple wellbeing advice sheets for young people, parents/carers and school staff in order to support schools. These sheets could be circulated within the digital school community, posted to a digital wellbeing hub or e-mailed out. Each advice sheet also includes relevant website links, which we hope you will find useful. Any feedback or comments can be e-mailed to Dawn.Haughton@glasgow.ac.uk.
