Zoolab visit Nursery

Zoolab came for a visit to Nursery bringing some interesting animals and insects to see us. They told the story of how the animals were chosen for Chinese New Year.

It all started with a race!  We met some animals and insects who didn’t finish the race because they were too small or they didn’t like water or another animal was trying to eat it.

We also met some animals who did finish the race like the snake and the rat.

We had a great time meeting all the animals and we were very brave touching and holding them!

The Solar System by P3

We made all of the planets.  First we blew up a balloon and covered in it in paper mache.  The balloons kept bursting everywhere, it was very very messy! We had to leave them to dry, then we painted them.  We looked on google to find out which colour each planet is.  Then we painted them the colours to match.

We hung them on our washing line in order.  We made pluto, but we know that it is not a planet anymore.  We had great fun making the planets, it was fantastic!

The Wilderness

As part of our litter pick we had a look at the wilderness in the playground.

Lots of the trees were healthy and growing.  However most of the plastic protectors and the stakes had come off of the trees.

Some trees were still very small, but one in particular is very big.  We think there are about 70 – 100 trees there.  But they are not evenly spread.  Some areas have lots of trees and others have none at all, especially near the football pitches.  There are also lots of the brown weeds taking up room from the trees.  There are lots of different kinds of trees there.

Rain Gauges Update

We checked on our rain gauges again today.  In the eco pod there was 300mls of rain in our gauge.

In the quiet area and outside Miss McAulay’s office there was 200mls of rain.

We discussed why there was more rain in the eco pod.  We thought it might be because there was less shelter in the eco pod.  The rain here usually falls sideways so it might be hitting the buildings.  We also thought someone might have tipped a little water out.  We are going to ask that nobody touches our rain gauges over the next few weeks.

The great news is that they did have water in them, the pen was still on the side of the bottles and they hadn’t tipped over even though it was really windy at the weekend.
