lhs31.gif

This picture shows the Carronshore pupils waiting to to go in to the Larbert High School building this morning. They were all very apprehensive at this stage. The Carronshore teachers stayed with them until they went off to their classes and activities. We hoped that they wouldn’t be too overwhelmed by the experience ……. guess what – apparently they LOVED it!!

I love high school!!!!!!

Posted by Danni on June 12th, 2007

Today we went to high school it was well better! The first thing we done was sit in our form classes. We then got showed a power point. After that we went to our first class. I went to french it was good. We done a word search and got asked questions! After another session of sitting down and getting told stuff again we went to  another class. I was at  science  /  chemistry. It was brilliant!  We got to see the teacher light a fire on bonsent  burner  I might have spelt it wrong. I found it so interesting. After that we had lunch. I had mine at the hub thats the dinner hall.  I had a turkey burger and a drink of water. I wasn’t that hungry. After lunch I went out side and I met new people. They were really nice. Then after lunch time we went back inside and had a fun after noon. We had a game in the hall and after that a show from the second years and the a power point about eco. That was what we done today. Tomorrow we will be doing our normal scedual and go to our classes. For people who are nervous about going to high school don’t be, it’s so much fun and way more better than primary. The thing about flushing your head down the toilet  is alot of rubbish its lies. So when you go enjoy your self  and think of it as just a bigger version of primary school and more classes!!

We had our lunch I had a tuna mayo baguette it was really yummy. After lunch we got to see a drama show all about the school dress code. Then after that we went and watched a movie all about eco. Then we went into the sports hall and played 3 games. After that we went back to the assembly hall and we got dissmised.

Our Visit To Larbert High School – Day One!!

Today we all went to Larbert High School instead of going to Carronshore Primary. We are on our three day induction visit.

 lhs21.gif

We sat in the Hall according to our  Form Class. The prefects helped us if we were confused.

lhs4.gif

We had to practise standing up before the Rector, Mr McGowan, came in to talk to us. It was very different from our assemblies with Mrs Livingstone!

lhs5.gif

He told us all about our three day visit. Later we all went to our different classes to meet some of our new teachers. It was strange only having one or two Carronshore pupils in our class!!!

The Big Walk!!

On Friday, the whole school went on a ‘Big Walk’ around Carronshore. It was a great day! We had some practices during the week when every class walked around the school grounds. Our class ‘practised’ on Thursday. It was great because we just stayed out and played football after the short walk because the weather was so nice!

On Friday, we were a bit worried that the weather wouldn’t hold out … but it did!

James and Jamie caught some of the action on our camera. Check it out below!

[rockyou 72518278]

They even managed to video our nursery children walking (you can hear their comments as they recorded the action) … cannae get the staff these days 🙂

Conflict Resolution Playscripts.

In pairs, we wrote some playscripts about how to resolve arguments. We acted out the plays and the class voted for the best two. We have recorded them on here.

Jamie D and Thomas N are the cameramen!

Marc and Chloe helped to upload the videos.

The rest of the class were the Directors!

We’ve been so busy recently – it’s hard to keep up! Chloe D put this comment on her individual blog about our recent day out to the ‘Choices for Life’ event. Thank you, Chloe! It sounds like you had a great time! You can read her post below.

Below is Danni’s entry about the event.

“Today we went to a safety talk about making the right choices in life. Such as don’t take drugs don’t smoke and lots of other things. There was a play of these teenagers how they went from high school from primary school. It was a great play but a bit sad at the end!!We played a game but my team lost so I wont say much about that!! In between all this there was singers there….. Little Chris , Bells boys , A singer that is famous in Switzerland and a band called Pacific Avenue . It was brilliant . A Very Busy Thursday! Some Australian Visitors and a Conference Presentation!!

Yesterday we had a visit from some Australian educators. They spent a lot of time chatting to the children. They were all very nice. You can watch our interview below.

[googlevideo]1023118004455163756&hl=en-GB[/googlevideo]

In the afternoon, some of us went along to the Learning to Achieve Conference and told people how we use our Blogs. It went very well – we think they were really impressed )

Here’s what Jeanan wrote about our presentation on her individual blog.

“Today some pupils from my class went to Airth Castle, the pupils that went were Lisa, Marc, Myself & Danni. It went really well and I am sure that everyone that listened to us should now know what a blog is, what a blogs for and how a blog can be used in an educational way. The day went really well and we all enjoyed it, we made a power point all about our blog and Mrs vass made a powr point too. So the whole day went very well, at the end of the day we all got a certificate for helping Mrs Vass.”

The Tension Was Too Much!

Scroll down to see how the tension started! Mrs Fergusson asked us to write down our names. They were folded up and put into the ‘hat’. Mrs Livingstone was asked to come along to pick the winner. Chloe C was the one who shook all the names about in the ‘hat’.!!!!!   ….. and the winner is ……….. Watch this space to find out :))

Over The Moon!!

angel2.gif

I’m over the moon!!!! We won! Thank you to all who voted! What will we do with the phone? Well, all the P7 pupils who have a blog will put their names into a hat. We’ll pick one out and that person gets the phone…….BUT …..they need to promise to use for the pupils’ blogs as well as for their own use. They get to take it home, but we want to share all the cool things it does. We’ve already got one, so we know about the great things like the camera, and the video recorder – and we’ll make some more podcasts!

Yippeee!! I can’t wait till tomorrow to see who’s going to win it!! Thank You LG Shine!

A Very Australian Day!

kayleigh1.gif

Today we all said farewell to Kayleigh. This is her last week at school …

she’s off to Australia next week! We’ll really miss her, but it’s fantastic

that she can keep in touch by posting her adventures on her individual

blog. She’s already made friends over there because we are in touch

with the  AllStars

Check out the comments

she’s been receiving! She’s going to a different part of Australia (they’re in Sydney, she’s off to Perth), but maybe they’ll meet up sometime – who knows!

anzac3.gif

Mrs V made some Anzac biscuits and even some Lamington cakes.

We found the recipes for  them here   …. They were yummy!!

Anzac Biscuits

Traditional biscuits baked by anxious wives and mothers during World War I, packed in food parcels, and sent to the Australian soldiers in the trenches.

INGREDIENTS
1 cup rolled oats
3/4 cup desiccated coconut
1 cup plain flour
1 cup sugar
125g (4oz) butter
2 tablespoons golden syrup
1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda, 1 tablespoon water

Preheat oven to 300F (150C)

Mix oats, flour, sugar and coconut together.
Melt syrup and butter together.
Mix soda with boiling water and add to melted butter and syrup.
Add to dry ingredients.
Place 1 tablespoonfuls of mixture on greased tray (allow room for spreading).
Bake for 20 minutes.
Loosen while warm, cool on trays.
(makes about 35)

Earlier in the day, Neil (Mrs Green’s son) came to school and played the Digiridoo for us …. the videos are uploading now and will be on here soon!

The Digiridoo!

digiridoo.gif

Miss Burton brought in her digiridoo to show us because we’re learning about Australia. James and Rachael are holding it. It looks (and sounds) super! Ryan and Sophie interviewed her to find out more. You can listen to the podcast below.

Please click on the name below ….. and it will take you to another window. Press the little arrow to begin the podcast.

Our Fame is Spreading!

Recently we’ve found ourselves mentioned in some very influential blogs!

David Gilmour from East Lothian Council had this to say on his blog.

We’d like to thank him for his great support – he helped us set up our individual blogs and he’s always there to help when we need it (we’ll need to email him again, though …. but this time it’s to tell him that we’re Carronshore Primary and not Carronvale Primary 🙂 !)

We’ve also had a mention on Ewan McIntosh’s blog. He’s always got great ideas about  new ‘blogging tools’ like bubbleshare and pbwikis. Mrs V has learned loads from reading his blog regularly  ….. but we’ll need to email him too, to tell him that the competition winners were chosen before the individual blogs were set up 🙂

The ‘judges’ came to our school and spoke to the pupils about our class blog and our wikis. A few weeks later, we received an email to say we’d won a prize – but we didn’t know what it was until the  ICT fair!

Here we are with our prize – all looking very proud!

Some Great News

 laura.gif

Laura (Mrs V’s niece who helped out in our class a while ago) has just sent a text to say that she will be going to Glasow University soon to study to be a teacher …. good luck, Laura!

john.gif

John came to our class recently to help us learn how to edit our photograhs for our photoaday project. His mum is a teacher in our school and she told us that he has been named as The Young Photographer of the Year because he came first in the Scottish Photography Press Awards competition (First Scotrail Press Photography Awards 2006).

Well done, John!!

john-summers.gif

His mum showed us his trophy.

We also interviewed Mrs Tait. She is new to Falkirk Council and she told us all about her job ……… the camera card was full and we were not able to record the answer to the last question so we’ll write it here:

” The highlight of my job is working with pupils in schools. Visiting Carronshore and making this video has been great. On Tuesday of this week, I helped P1s in Airth Primary School with Reading. Working with all th children in all the schools is the highlight of my job.”
