Netherlee Primary School invited the Art and Design Department of Williamwood High School to participate in an Expressive Arts Event, which took place on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th May, culminating in an Open Day held within the Primary school on Friday 6th.
Working with over 200 pupils from P4 and P7, the Art and Design department produced a sculptural installation of a still life painting by William York MacGregor ‘The Vegetable Stall’, painted using oil and canvas in 1884.
A selection of harvest vegetables were provided as primary source material to encourage the pupils to construct from life. Preparing papers using a wax resist technique, pupils reconstructed the vegetables from the MacGregor painting. This was very appropriate as the P4 pupils had been working on an interdisciplinary topic called ‘The Land to the Larder‘. This was a wonderful example of strong cluster partnership.
