Williamwood Music Festival 2017

Williamwood High School’s 2nd Music Festival took place at 7pm on the 10th October in the school’s Conference Suite. Our esteemed judges; Celine Donoghue and John Cavanagh were most impressed with the large variety of styles of music performed – from the delicate tones of the clarsach, to the fantastic, patriotic bagpipe music performed by some of Williamwood High School’s skilful pipers.

After some deliberation, the judges chose Luka as the winner of the Junior Category. Luka performed thrilling guitar solos of Ozzy Osborne’s exciting Sato and Kick Start my Heart by the Motley Krew, with Elias, also on the guitar, being awarded the junior runner up for his convincing versions of Black Sabbath’s Paranoid and the Black Keys’ Lonely Boy.

The Senior Category was dominated by Tom’s energetic and exciting performances of Dark Matter and Island Magic on the drumkit, with the runner up being Erin, who accompanied herself singing on the guitar. Erin performed her own original song, called Goodbye, and also played an imaginative cover of Nena’s 99 Red Balloons. Her soulful recital was recognised as being mature and expressive.

The Rising Star was named as Caitlin, who also accompanied herself on the guitar. Her performances of Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran and Radio Active by the Imagine Dragons were described as thoughtful and sensitive.

Thanks to all who attended, and who contributed to such a great night. An extra special thanks to Celine and John, who provided the pupils some fine points in performance skills and some enthusiastic, well-deserved encouragement.

The pupils of Williamwood High School invite you to Be Our Guest as we present the smash hit Broadway musical Beauty and the Beast! Disney’s Beauty and the Beast tells the timeless story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and a young prince cursed by an enchantress to spend his life as a hideous beast. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end. But time is running out, and if the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
