Tickets will be on sale shortly for our first ever Autumn Jazz Festival which takes place on Thursday 4th October and will feature the Williamwood Big Band, the school choir, a jazz combo and various soloists. Tickets will be priced at £4 and £2. We look forward to an informal evening of music in a relaxing, jazz club setting.

Tickets are now available for this year’s school show.  Come along and be entertained by pupils from S1 – S6 as they bring to you ‘Grease the Musical’.  Tickets are priced at £6/£4 and can be purchased from the Performing Arts base and from the Street at lunchtime. The show is on Wednesday 20th June through to Friday 22nd June.

Congratulations to Ross Gunning on a fantastic performance on Sunday evening, 10th June, at the WSSSO concert in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.  Ross performed the Rosauro Vibraphone Concerto with the orchestra.  It was a breath taking performance and if you’d like to catch a flavour of it click  here.

CHARITY AFTERNOON TEA

Pupils are invited to join the Music Department for Afternoon Tea to raise money for a charity.

You should bring £4 or more and all food and drinks will be provided.

Background music will be played to ensure you have a relaxing afternoon in preparation for the summer holidays.

Congratulations to Andrew Vettraino S2 who performed as part of the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Tuesday. Unfortunately no photographs were taken as Andrew informs us that you are not allowed to take photographs when the Queen is eating!

Look out for our new Composer of the Month, Sir William Walton. As we celebrate Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee this year we look at the composer who wrote Orb and Sceptre (Coronation March) which was written in 1953 and was commissioned and played at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

Our guest on Desert Island Discs during the month of May is Mr Ian Fisher, who is the member of the Senior Management Team linked to the department.

We wish the pupils of Maestoso, Mr West and Miss Allan well as they travel to Dublin today and look forward to hearing about the experience upon their return.
