The Performing Arts department welcomes Mrs Claire Raeburn to the team as the new link member from the Senior Management Team. We are certain you will enjoy her choice of music for this month’s Desert Island Discs and the information that accompanies the songs.
Pupils are also encouraged to read about this month’s selected composer.
Cello Lessons
Please note that Mrs Anderson will not be in school next week, Wednesday 12th September. Lessons will resume as normal the following week.
Percussion and Guitar Auditions
Places are now available in percussion for S1 pupils. Anybody who wishes to be considered for a place should see either Mrs Selbie or Ms Williams in the Performing Arts Department. Auditions will take place next Monday (3rd September).
Places are still available for guitar lessons and anybody interested should again see Mrs Selbie or Ms Williams.
Performing Arts Colours
Each year, pupils have three opportunities to achieve Music Colours. This year pupils are invited to submit evidence by:
Term 1
Monday 22nd October
Term 2
Monday 4th March
Term 3
Monday 20th May
The criteria for achieving these Colours will be explained at assemblies.
Rock Bands
Any pupils wishing to start a rock band should see Ms Williams with a list of band members, instruments and ideal rehearsal times for lunchtimes or after school.
Timelines
Certificate class timelines have now been updated on the website. Dates of all assessments and deadlines are listed for 2012-13 S3 – S6 classes.
Theory tuition
In preparation for the ABRSM theory examinations on 7th November, music staff will be running a series of theory lessons on Wednesday lunchtimes. These sessions will commence on 26th September. Pupils are required to bring their ABRSM theory books to the class. All grades will be addressed with the focus being on Grade 5. Further information can be obtained from Ms Williams.
Aural classes will be offered in line with the ABRSM practical examinations. Details to follow. Information can be obtained from Mrs Dippie.
Instrumental Lessons
Initial timetables will be displayed on the website from Monday. Please note that Ms Rose (percussion) will not be in school on Monday 2oth August and that Mr Finnigan (guitar) will not be in on Friday 31st August and that his lessons will take place on Monday 3rd September. Pupils should regularly check the instrumental noticeboard and website for updates.
Instrumental Lessons
Instrumental lessons will begin the week beginning 20th August. Timetables will be available on the website from Monday 20th and pupils are asked to note the time of their lesson for the first week using either the website or the instrumental lesson board in the department. Printed timetables will be issued during the first lesson.
Pupils who are attending Williamwood on a placement request and have previously received instrumental lessons and would like to continue should see Ms Williams or Mrs Selbie as soon as possible in the Performing Arts base.
S1 auditions for guitar and drum lessons will take place in the first few weeks of term. Information will be given at assemblies.
