NCOGB Final Concert in the Royal Festival Hall
Congratulations to S3 pupils Campbell Lang (bassoon) and Chris Vettraino (oboe) who were performing in the Royal Festive Hall in London at the weekend with the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain.
Young Musician of the Year 2015
Any pupil wishing to take part in this year’s competition should collect an audition form from Mr Zochowski in the performing arts base. To enter you should prepare a programme of 6 minutes and pick pieces of music that are contrasting in style. As always, there shall be junior (S1-S3) and senior (S4-S6) categories and the final shall take place in March 2015 in Williamwood Parish Church. All auditions shall take place before Christmas, therefore all interested applicants must return their form as soon as possible.
Scottish Opera Connect
Scottish Opera are looking for talented young musicians aged 14 to 21 to audition for their 2015/16 youth opera company, Scottish Opera Connect.
Connect is made up of two strands, Connect Chorus and Connect Orchestra, and is a unique programme which gives aspiring singers and musicians the chance to develop their know, technique and skills with the help or Scotland’s top opera professionals. Please note the deadline for applications is Monday 1 December 2014.

Musical entertainment at Charity Night
A big thank you to all the students that provided the entertainment on Wednesday night, 19th Nov, at Stamperland Bowling Club Charity night. The students performed for over an hour and a half and everyone there was thoroughly entertained. The pupils involved were: S1 pupil Aalia Shah on violin, S3 pupil Chris Vettraino on oboe, S4 pupil Alec Ross on french horn and S5 pupils Lewis Graham on clarinet, Calum Steel on classical guitar and singers Rachel Fortune, Jessica Gaff, Naomi MacLeod and Ami Thomson.
Senior Girls Vocal Ensemble at SQA Star Awards
On Friday 7th November, the Senior Girls Vocal Ensemble performed at the SQA Star Awards Ceremony in Glasgow. The girls were selected for this through a competitive audition process involving schools and colleges throughout Scotland. They performed superbly and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Well done.
Young Singer of the Year 2014
On Wednesday 5 November, Williamwood’s Performing Arts faculty held its annual Young Singer of the Year competition. The standard of entrants was fantastic and the event was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended. The level of pupil talent was exceptional. Congratulations to Stephen (S3) who won the Junior award and the runner up Erin (S3). The senior awards was won by Rachel (S5) and the runner up was Sophie (S6). An overall Rising Star award was given to Caitlin (S1). Well done!
Netherlee Age Concern Concert
A group of S5 pupils are performing tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday 4th November, at a lunchtime concert for Netherlee Age Concern. The pupils involved are Jessica Gaff – voice, Lewis Graham – clarinet, Andrew MacLeod – trombone, Calum Steel – guitar and Andrew Vettraino – bassoon. The concert takes place in the Montgomery Hall in Eaglesham and includes a wide range of styles of music to entertain the audience.
