Big Day Out

CHARITY AFTERNOON TEA

Pupils are invited to join the Music Department for Afternoon Tea to raise money for a charity.

You should bring £4 or more and all food and drinks will be provided.

Background music will be played to ensure you have a relaxing afternoon in preparation for the summer holidays.

Please see Mr Inglis for further information about the Big Day Out.

A Royal Performance

Congratulations to Andrew Vettraino S2 who performed as part of the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Tuesday. Unfortunately no photographs were taken as Andrew informs us that you are not allowed to take photographs when the Queen is eating!

The month of May

Look out for our new Composer of the Month, Sir William Walton. As we celebrate Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee this year we look at the composer who wrote Orb and Sceptre (Coronation March) which was written in 1953 and was commissioned and played at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

Our guest on Desert Island Discs during the month of May is Mr Ian Fisher, who is the member of the Senior Management Team linked to the department.

Big Band

Big Band rehearsals will recommence on Tuesday 24th April at 3:35 in Music Studio 3. We will be working on material for our Autumn Jazz Festival which is due to take place at the beginning of October. We are currently looking for additional trumpet and trombone players and would warmly welcome anybody who is interested.

Spring Success

Well done to all involved in last night’s concert; it was a great success.  The feedback from those who attended has been amazing commending not only the standard and variety of performances but the smooth running of the evening thanks to the stage help and the sound engineers.  Photographs will be uploaded to the gallery next week.

A donation has been made to the Malawi fund from the sale of tickets.  Thank you for supporting this project.

Spring Concert

Thursday 22nd March, 7pm, Williamwood High School

Tickets are still available for this week’s Spring Concert priced at £4 and £2. These can be bought from the Performing Arts base or on the door.  The programme offers a wide variety of musical styles to suit all tastes with over two hundred of our pupils performing.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Congratulations!

Well done to all who performed at the Young Musician of the Year competition.   It was a great success with a very high standard of musicianship from every soloist.
