Congratulations to Richard Scholfield (S6) on saxophone and Campbell Lang (S2) on bassoon who won the senior and junior categories of this year’s Young Musician contest. Well done also to Lewis Graham (S4) on clarinet and Christopher Vettraino (S2) on oboe who were runners up.
The standard of performances was extremely high once again and all finalists should be very proud of their playing. A fabulous night was had by all and the judges were extremely complimentary of the standard.
Congratulations to French Horn player, Luke Maher S6, who won the Gilbert Innes Brass Prize competition at the RCS Juniors on Friday 14th March.
This year has been the most successful year yet with every ensemble and group entered winning their class. These include: Senior Vocal Ensemble directed by Mrs Dippie, String Orchestra directed by Mr Doherty, Senior Concert Band directed by Mrs Brodie and conducted by Richard Scholfield S6, Williamwood Trio and the Wind Octet both directed by Mrs Roberts. Congratulations to everyone involved both pupils and staff.
This year’s Young Musician contest will take place on Thursday 20th March at 7pm in the Music Department. Tickets cost £4/£2 and can be purchased in the Performing Arts base. The standard of performances this year is exceptionally high so purchase your tickets quickly to avoid disappointment. Finalists are:

On the evening of Sat 8th March Chris Vettraino S2 is performing the work Variations on a Theme by Glinka composed by Rimsky-Korsakov on oboe with the Glasgow Wind Band. Tickets are available at the RCS Box Office.

Senior Concert Band on Mon 10 March at 6.30pm in the Royal Concert Hall
Williamwood Trio on Mon 10 March at 2.35pm in the City Halls
Wind Octet on Tues 11 March at 2.30pm in the City Halls
Congratulations to saxophonist, Richard Scholfield S6, who won the Gilbert Innes Woodwind Prize competition at the RCS Juniors on Friday 21st February. A special mention must also go to S2 pupil Chris Vettraino who came third in the same competition on oboe.
Congratulations to S2 pupils Campbell Lang (bassoon) and Chris Vettraino (oboe) who have both been awarded with scholarships for the most outstanding auditions for the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain 2014. These scholarships are awarded to only 4 students in the entire orchestra and we are very proud that two of the awards are going to Williamwood pupils. Campbell and Chris will receive their scholarships in March at an Awards Ceremony in the Royal College of Music in London.
