Scottish Opera are looking for talented young musicians aged 14 to 21 to audition for their 2015/16 youth opera company, Scottish Opera Connect.

Connect is made up of two strands, Connect Chorus and Connect Orchestra, and is a unique programme which gives aspiring singers and musicians the chance to develop their know, technique and skills with the help or Scotland’s top opera professionals.   Please note the deadline for applications is Monday 1 December 2014.

A big thank you to all the students that provided the entertainment on Wednesday night, 19th Nov, at Stamperland Bowling Club Charity night.  The students performed for over an hour and a half and everyone there was thoroughly entertained.  The pupils involved were:  S1 pupil Aalia Shah on violin, S3 pupil Chris Vettraino on oboe, S4 pupil Alec Ross on french horn and S5 pupils Lewis Graham on clarinet, Calum Steel on classical guitar and singers Rachel Fortune, Jessica Gaff, Naomi MacLeod and Ami Thomson.

On Friday 7^th November, the Senior Girls Vocal Ensemble performed at the SQA Star Awards Ceremony in Glasgow. The girls were selected for this through a competitive audition process involving schools and colleges throughout Scotland. They performed superbly and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Well done.

On Wednesday 5 November, Williamwood’s Performing Arts faculty held its annual Young Singer of the Year competition.   The standard of entrants was fantastic and the event was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended.  The level of pupil talent was exceptional.  Congratulations to Stephen (S3) who won the Junior award and the runner up Erin (S3).  The senior awards was won by Rachel (S5) and the runner up was Sophie (S6).  An overall Rising Star award was given to Caitlin (S1).  Well done!

A group of S5 pupils are performing tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday 4th November, at a lunchtime concert  for Netherlee Age Concern.  The pupils involved are Jessica Gaff – voice, Lewis Graham – clarinet, Andrew MacLeod – trombone, Calum Steel – guitar and Andrew Vettraino – bassoon.  The concert takes place in the Montgomery Hall in Eaglesham and includes a wide range of styles of music to entertain the audience.

The final of this year’s Young Singer of the Year 2014 competition is taking place on Wednesday 5 November at 7pm in Drama Studios 1 and 2.  Tickets cost £3 (£2 for concessions) and can be purchased from Mrs Dippie in the Performing Arts base or Music Studio 4.

Roxie Rocks Williamwood! The performing arts department are delighted to present a short trailer of our pupils getting prepared for the first performance of this year’s school show CHICAGO. Pupils from S1 to S6 were involved in every aspect of putting this musical together; actors, musicians, dancers and a production team. Congratualtions to all the students involved in our annual Jazz Festival. It was a fabulous evening with music from the Big Band, Senior choir, Senior Vocal Ensemble, soloists plus special guests.  The guest artists were the Williams Quartet, which includes two of our students Mark Hendry S6 and Tom Potter S2, and the RCS Saxophone Quartet.

Congratulations to S5 pupil Lewis Graham who has got into NYOGB this session on clarinet.
