John left Williamwood in 2008 and is now the principal oboe in Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London.
On Thursday 15th September the orchestra celebrated it’s 70 anniversary. John featured in the concert and gave a players perspective in the programme:
The RPO responds extremely well to any conductor. It’s quite normal for us to be doing symphonic rock one night at the Royal Albert Hall, with lasers and dry ice everywhere, and the next morning to be in a rehearsal with Thomas Dausgaard or Charles Dutoit, getting into the fine detail of some really sophisticated repertoire. There’s a spirit of adventure. Things don’t always go exactly to plan, but in the RPO we just get on and give a great concert, whatever the circumstances.
