The homework club runs is on both Thursday 6 and 13 December if pupils would like to revise or get help with topics they have found challenging.

Music Success – Freeja Nolan 1a7

Well done to Freeja Nolan (1a7) who has had a very successful year with her Traditional Music. In the summer holidays this year she was part of a band that won the World Championships that took place in Ireland.  From this the band have been asked to play and walk up the red carpet at a Infinitime Music Awards Ceremony taking place in Glasgow this weekend.

As it is the Year of the Young People in Scotland, Freeja and the band have also been invited to play at the Scottish Parliament for a 70th Anniversary celebration for the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on the Wednesday 12 December.

We wish Freeja every success and look forward to seeing her play in St Ninian’s!

SCEN China Youth Summit

Well done to the following S1 pupils who attended the SCEN China Youth Summit at Perth Concert Hall on Friday 9 November.

There were several performances by a variety of Scottish schools.  A number of St Ninian’s pupils and staff sang ‘True Heroes’ in Mandarin which was exceptionally well received.

Pupils also had the chance to speak with young people from Hong Kong who were in Scotland for a six days visit.  Some of them had spent a week in St Ninian’s and lived with a St Ninian’s family.

Overall this was an amazing experience for our young people who learned about Chinese culture and also had the chance to lead learning for the Chinese students by teaching them about Scotland.

Taha Hafeez (1a4), James Dalton (1a1), Sean Bauld (1a1), Eva Drummond (1a1), Lucy Moynihan (1a7) and Max Rodgers (1a7).

S1 Bikeability Success

Well done to Reece Ness (1a7) who successfully passed the Bikeability Level 3 award.

Level 3 equips trainees with skills for more challenging roads and traffic situations – busier streets, queuing traffic, complex junctions and roundabouts. It also includes planning routes for safe cycling. Level 3 training is delivered one-to-one or in groups of up to 3 so can be tailored to a trainee’s individual needs, such as a route to work or school. At Level 3 you can:

  • prepare for a journey
  • understand advanced road positioning
  • pass queuing traffic
  • perceive and deal with hazards
  • understand driver blind spots
  • react to hazardous road surfaces

Excellence and Achievement Awards in History

Well done to the following pupils who were awarded Excellence or Achievement Awards in History:

James Bowes (1a3), Katie Callaghan (1a3), Esme Dougall (1a3), Lori McAllister (1a3), Anthony McParland (1a3), Isla Mulholland (1a3), Ava Hannah (1a4), Conor Boyle (1a4), Orla Conroy (1a4), Rebekah Cent (1a4), Erin Donaldson (1a4), Pranav Aluri (1a4), Jack Gormley (1a6), Niamh Lawwell (1a6), Katie Porter (1a6), Erina Smith (1a6), Robbie Watson (1a6) and Mhairi Zing (1a6).

Excellence – for the 3 pupils in each class who have the highest marks / best performance in assessment and project work / extended writing pieces and the highest standard of jotter work.

Achievement – this is for 3 pupils in each class who may not have achieved the very highest marks but have given their very best at all times over the course of the rotation. They have made an excellent contribution overall to the work of the class. We introduced this classification to try to recognise hard work and achievement and a positive contribution in a slightly wider sense.
