May’21

We have had a very busy month. We have been working hard in school and learning about the impact of maths in the world. We are all busy working on our personal research and we will then share our findings with the class. We have also been learning about speed, distance and time and financial education.

In Literacy we have been learning about Standard English and Non Standard English, direct speech and the importance of punctuation. We have made good progress in writing. We have written poems, imaginative stories, recount stories and we have written leaflets to raise awareness of health and wellbeing.

Lots of us made the most of the opportunity to take part in Bikeability Level 2 Training. We learned a huge amount about cycling including how to:

complete an M Safety Check of the bike prior to cycling

start and stop safely

give way

turn left and right

position ourselves correctly on the road
manoeuvre around parked cars

complete a u turn

cycle safely on major roads

Some of our children were able to complete their journey of initiation through the sacrament of Confirmation.  This was a very special, spiritual and intimate event which we really enjoyed.

We had great fun at sports day and we even managed to stay dry!

We are looking forward to our last month in primary school and we can’t wait to take part in all of the wonderful trips that have been planned for us.

It is good to be back!

We are happy to be back in school and back into our normal routines. We are looking forward to making the most of our last term of primary school.

In Literacy, we have nearly finished our Novel Study, Tom’s Midnight Garden. We have been working on answering different types of questions in comprehension and have been revising parts of speech and learning about parenthesis.  In writing we created a superhero with a disability in order to raise awareness and then created a comic strip about our superhero. Our comics were fantastic.

In Numeracy, we have been learning many different mental maths strategies and we have been revising what we know about fractions, decimals and percentages, time durations, data handling and we are currently learning about ratio.

We have been spending time preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation which will complete our journey of initiation. We are in the process of sharing our presentations about our chosen saint or our faith with our classmates. Throughout this journey we have been learning about lots of role models including Oscar Romero, Marianne Cope, St. John Bosco, St. Vincent de Paul, Margaret Sinclair, Archbishop Oscar Romero and many more.

Last week Mr Docherty visited our class with two former pupils who are now in S6. We got the opportunity to hear about what life will be like for us in S1 and to ask some questions about the year ahead. Exciting times!

We have taken part in live virtual lessons in Mandarin. So far we have learned how to say hello, good bye, how are you and the numbers 1-10. This has been great fun. We are looking forward to our second and final bike ability on road session in in May.

P7d December

We have had a busy few weeks in P7d. In Numeracy we have enjoyed learning about Algebra and are now more confident when solving equations. In Literacy we have been learning to write letters and to write an imaginative story for younger children which we will share with the nursery/P1 after the holidays.

Canon Eddie joined us in school to help us to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. We all selected a saint that we consider to be a role model and who will help to guide us throughout our lives.  We are looking forward to preparing for this important and special sacrament when we return to school in 2021 as part of our Journey of Initiation.

We took part in tree planting within our school grounds and are looking forward to visiting St.Cadoc’s in the years to come to see how the design turns out.  We have really enjoyed our time outdoors, especially in the upper forest.  We used this time to work on our problem solving skills and to make use of our imagination.  We created rafts, Advent Wreaths and Christmas decorations. We enjoyed preparing for the birth of Jesus during Advent.

We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

November’20

What a busy month P7d have had. In R.E. we have been learning that November is the month of all souls and all saints and every day we have been remembering in our prayers people who are no longer with us. We have also sent time learning about Judaism as part of interfaith week. The theme for Catholic Education Week this year was “Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life” we enjoyed watching the Mass Fr Stephen McGrattan recorded specifically for our school. We have started to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation and are spending time to find out about the lives of many of the saints. We are looking forward to our journey of initiation.
In writing we have been focusing on functional writing, personal writing and poetry. We created two poems. One was about about autumn and the other was about Scotland. We created leaflets to raise awareness of safety during bonfire night, an anti-bullying leaflet and a leaflet to raise awareness of the issues of climate change. In PE we have been working on the different skills needed to play basketball and we are getting really good at it and are enjoying playing competitive games.
In Numeracy and Mathematics, we have continued to work on our Mental agility and we are getting so good at times we can answer questions faster than Mrs Costello! We have been learning to solve problems and explain the strategies used and explain our solutions to others. We can now confidently calculate percentages of quantities and can solve word-based problems involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
We all survived our time in isolation, and we all worked really hard on our online classroom. We are very glad to be back in school and reunited with our friends and we are looking forward to our journey through Advent.

P7d October’20

P7d have been working hard and learning lots of new things.  In writing we thought about the issues we face in the world today and we then wrote about 3 things we would change if we had the chance. We made good use of persuasive language and thought provoking questions throughout. We were really proud of the end results. We are currently learning about recount writing and are making good use of sentence openers and making use of the 5 senses in order to make our writing more engaging. In Numeracy we have been learning to multiply larger numbers by a single digit, to add, subtract and multiply decimal and we revised/learned many properties of quadrilaterals. We have been learning to solve problems and are getting very good at solving difficult problems.  We have learned about some famous artists including Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet and we recreated some of their famous pieces using oil pastels.  In RE we have been focusing on the weekly Gospel and trying live the Gospel values in our daily lives. We enjoyed learning about the life of St.John Paul II.    Last week we took part in our very first Bike Ability training session. We had lots of fun and learned how to stop and start safely and are all a bit more confident and are more aware of the rules of the road. Cycling is so much fun!I

Welcome Back P7d!

We have settled well into school and are working hard and loving spending time with our friends again.  We are working hard and are developing our skills in Literacy, Numeracy, Health and Wellbeing and RE.

In Literacy we are enjoying our imaginative writing tasks. We have been trying hard to make our writing engaging and interesting for the reader. We are learning to make good use of sentence openers and interesting vocabulary. We are making use of the senses to enhance our descriptions.  We have been working on our comprehension skills and are now more confident when finding evidence in the passage to help us to answer the question or find information.

We particular enjoyed an imaginative piece of writing called The Howl.  Several children have received a Star Writer Award for producing fantastic pieces of writing. We have spent time working on our Talking and Listening skills in the outdoors and we have even revised our spelling words and rules on the forest floor.

Numeracy

In Numeracy we have been revising the 4 operations (add, subtract, multiply and divide) and are now making progress with fractions whilst revising the multiplication tables.  We have been working on our mental maths skills and are now more confident when completing mental maths tasks and this will continue to improve. We are now more confident when working with fractions and can find fractions of quantities, equivalent fractions, we can work with both mixed and improper fractions and we can add and subtract fractions. We have also been learning to solve problems making use of various problem solving strategies. We have been making use of our knowledge of mathematics and challenging ourselves through outdoor learning and we are looking forward to designing an area to plant some trees in our school grounds.

PE

We love PE and have been enjoying working as part of a team in athletics to further develop our skills in Athletics. We have been taking part in the mile run from time to time also and we are getting fitter and faster.

RE

In RE we have been following the Liturgical Calendar and trying to live the Gospel message in our daily lives. We have learned about the lives of many saints including St Ninian, St. Pio and St. Matthew.
