Club Clyde – Cardonald College

Glasgow Clyde College have recently introduced a free weekly evening club for young people with additional needs.   The club will take place every Tuesday evening at Glasgow Clyde College, Cardonald Campus. (5pm-7pm) Young people will take part in various activities including arts & crafts, games, music, cookery, bingo, disco, karaoke and lots more.   The sessions are aimed at S3-S6 pupils who are considering progressing to college as a pathway after school. BAE Systems – Work Experience

BAE Systems are delighted to announce that they are starting to release their 2024 Work Experience Placement. For now, the only date open for applications is 29 January – 1 February 2024.  They will officially launch the remainder of dates in January but keen to allow time for applications over December.   Join BAE Systems Maritime Naval Ships team for a one week work experience placement and earn a Silver Industrial Cadet Award. Our work experience placements will take place Monday to Thursday (8.30 -15.30) for pupils aged 16 -18 at either our Scotstoun and Govan sites. Students will spend time learning about BAE System’s apprentice programmes, the business and spend time in a workshop environment creating a project that they will then be asked to do a short presentation on.   On this one week programme, students will develop their skills and experience through live face to face sessions and activities devised and delivered by our apprentices and engineers. From combat systems to environmental engineers, project managers and steelworkers, students will learn with experts in their fields, illustrating the impact they are making on the future of ship design and the wide range of career pathways open to students when they leave school.   Students will work on an individual project and spend time with our early careers experts who will help them explore their strengths as well as school leaver opportunities. Specsavers are recruiting an Optical Assistant Apprentice to join their team in Paisley. Job Purpose We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to join our client, an Opticians based in Paisley, who is well presented and can talk to people in a friendly and polite manner. They will be trained to use electronic machines to pre test optical customers, who will be able to explain our offers and promotions to customers. They will also be able to use our computerised records and appointment system to assist customers making appointments, and will be able to guide customers in their choice of suitable frames and lenses for their glasses purchases. This will give a strong foundation for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in Retail or Customer Service in general, or within the Optics industry in particular. What will I learn ? As well as completing an apprenticeship in Optical Practice Support, you will also have the opportunity to learn about the various different types of eyesight that people who need glasses might have, some learning about how spectacles are actually made, along with some early insights into the kind of things that can sometimes go wrong with eyes. Applications for the free National NHS Virtual Work experience programme have now opened for 2023-2024! This programme has supported over 30,000 secondary school students obtain free work experiences last year. Virtual work experiences have been accepted by the Medical Schools and Dental Schools Council as valuable alternatives to in-person shadowing, backed by the Health Education England Discovery report on the impact of virtual work placements. This programme is brought to you by Birmingham Universities Hospitals Trust in collaboration with Medic Mentor, and it is completely free. Not only is this a reliable alternative to in-person shadowing, but it also plays a significant role in preparing students for their in-person work placements with structured teaching and opportunities to speak directly with healthcare professionals. The opportunity is open to any student across the UK from 14 years old and above. Recognised Certification: Upon successful completion of all specialities, students will receive a certificate from Medic Mentor and UHB, validating their active participation to include in their UCAS and apprenticeships applications. This month’s focus is on Surgery or Oral Surgery, offering a first-hand look into the life of a surgeon and the intricacies of procedures such as keyhole surgery in medicine or paediatric dentistry and oral surgery for those interested in dentistry. Motor Sound Complex in Battlefield are currently recruiting for a Trainee Workshop Assistant. MOTOR Sound Complex are Scotland’s Premier Alloy wheel and tyre specialists.  Based in Glasgow’s Southside we are Glasgow’s largest and most established alloy wheel retailer. We have an opportunity for a trainee Workshop Assistants to join our team. The role: As a workshop assistant you will work closely with our team of technicians to remove and replace tyres and alloy wheels for our customers.  As well as tyre and alloy fitting your duties will also include the packaging of tyres to be sent to customers.
