Job Overview

You will undertake a Customer Service Modern Apprenticeship and be part of our On Train Hospitality team. The role will include operating the catering trolley to provide customers with food and beverage options, promoting deals, replenishing stock at one our depots to ensure the cart is offering maximum choice for our customers and helping with customer queries on train and in the station environment. You will be responsible for reporting sales, managing cash and card transactions. The role will involve the use of a portable ramp, which weighs up to 15kg, for loading /unloading a Hospitality trolley.

What you can expect from your apprenticeship?

You will be spending the start of your apprenticeship in our training academy learning about ScotRail, the on train catering role and taking part in e-learning and various training activities. You will be given a dedicated assessor who will provide full support while you work through your customer service qualification. Upon completion, if you have impressed us with your attitude, behaviour and skills you could be offered a permanent role. What are we looking for?

You will have relevant skills, qualifications and/or experience at SCQF Level 4 (National 4).

Many of you might know what SCQF is but if you don’t, we have included a link to the framework to allow you to find out what level you are working at – Know your Level – Individuals | Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (scqf.org.uk)

An ability to get to and from the above location without relying on the rail service.  You will be required to work an average of 36 hours per week, on either an early or a back shift.  Early shift starts of approx. 07:00 hours and back shift finish times of approx. 22:00 hours.  Your shifts will be rostered across a seven-day week with rotating days off.  (Shifts are reviewed twice a year and any changes will be advised)

This apprenticeship is open to people between the ages of 18-24, (disabled or care experienced applicants up to the age of 29 are also eligible to apply).

The selection process:

  • If you’re short listed, we may send you an email inviting you to complete an assessment.
  • The next stage will be an interview with the hiring manager.
  • The final stage for successful candidates will be a medical questionnaire and Disclosure Scotland. You’ll then be asked to provide at least 2 satisfactory references. At this point you’ll be welcomed on board.
