P3d Conduct a Traffic Survey!

As part of our Local Area Study P3d went outdoors to conduct a traffic survey.  We registered the different types and the frequency of the traffic. Back in class we used the laptops to put the information into spreadsheets and then created bar charts.

P3b – Lots of learning!

Science – Earth, Moon and Sun

Primary 3b have been learning about the Earth, the moon and the sun.  They have been observing and recording the earth, the sun and the moon at various times.  They have been exploring and describing their patterns of movement and changes over time.  They have been relating these to the length of a day, a month and a year.

They can describe how the Earth spins around its axis in 24 hours resulting in day and night. They can explain why the moon appears to have different shapes and positions in the sky at different times in a lunar month.

“I like learning about the solar system because I love space.  I find it very interesting that the moon changes shape every few nights in a lunar month.” (Gabriel E)

“I like the videos about the moon because they are really funny.  I also like that I know a lot of facts about the earth, the sun and the moon.” (Jai)

PE – Gymnastics

This week, they have been working on controlling their bodies.  They have been rolling, jumping, balancing and making shapes with their bodies.

Primary 3b have been really enjoying this aspect of PE.

“I like gymnastics because it’s fun.  I like jumping on the springboard and making a body shape on the landing mat.” (Hamish)

“My favourite part of gymnastics is making shapes with my body.  I like it because it is calm and quiet.  I like having fun with all the mats on the ground.” (Laurina)

Literacy – Outdoor Learning

This week, they were using the outdoors as inspiration to solve some riddles.  After that, they came up with their own riddles, using vocabulary from their outdoor environment.  They really loved this activity and had a lot of fun, being creative, coming up with their own.

Well done P3b – Keep up all the hard work!  🙂

“I liked how we got to work as a team to make our own riddles.  We used rhyming words from the outdoors to help us.” (Joe)

“All of the riddles were different and quite challenging.  I liked the one that was about a tree.  We loved making up our own because we could be as creative as we wanted.” (Elsa)

“I liked how we worked together to find the answers to the riddles.  I liked that we all solved one riddle each.  My favourite bit was making our own at the end.” (Niamh)

Keep up the hard work 3b! 🙂

P3b have been very busy!

Primary 3b have already been very busy, this term. Have a look at some of the things we have been learning.

This week, outdoors, we were consolidating our knowledge of times tables and addition strategies.  We collected sticks, bark, leaves and stones.

We created pictures using the materials we had gathered.  We allocated each object a value and then we calculated the total value of our pictures.  We had a lot of fun doing this challenge.

“My favourite part of this was collecting all the stuff.  It was like we were going on an adventure.” (Aleena)

“I liked making the pictures and calculating what value they were worth.” (Cian)

“I liked collecting all the stuff. I also liked working in my group with Gabriel E, Samuel and Cian.” (James)

This term, we have started doing gymnastics in PE. This week, we were stretching, balancing and working on controlling our bodies.  We had some very talented leaders and demonstrators.

“I liked demonstrating jumping over the bench.  My favourite part of it was choosing three shapes to make with my body.” (Mia)

“I liked doing the bridges in gymnastics.  I loved being a team leader.” (Sarah)

In Talking & Listening, we learned about children’s and teachers rights.  We had a group discussion about what we thought were rights and what were responsibilities.

Today, we had a real treat trying out the new Virtual Reality headsets.  We had a go at using them to get used to them.  We are looking forward to using them as part of our learning this term.

P3b Data Handling Outdoors

Today, P3b were putting their numeracy skills to the test outdoors.

We have been learning about putting information into carroll diagrams, venn diagrams and charts.

Today, they collected an assortment of outdoor materials, and sorted them into groups.  They then put that information into a chart of their choice.

P3b have really been enjoying transferring their numeracy skills to their outdoor learning.

Well done P3b.  Keep up the hard work 🙂

Have a look what 3c have been doing!

RE

In RE we have been focusing on the theme of Catholic Education Week- Serving the Common Good. We have been learning about how we can all work together to do this and created leaflets and posters about ways in which we can do this in our own lives.

Music

Our Music specialist has been busy working with us again. We have been listening to the story of Peter and the Wolf and identifying the different instruments we hear in the story.

Science

In Science we have been learning about germs and diseases. We enjoyed carrying out an experiment on a potato in which we predicted and then tested where most germs would grow on a potato which had been outside, in a control bag, on the floor or which had touched our hands. The conclusion we found was that most germs grew on the potato which had been on the ground outside however our hands and the floor also had lots of germs!

Outdoor Learning

We have been learning about different angles in numeracy and have learned to identify a right, straight, obtuse and acute angle. For outdoor learning we had to create numbers using sticks and identify with the cubes the angles in each number.

Art

We have been learning about the work of a Scottish artist called Steven Brown. After learning about his life and his work we have been replicating his work. Have a look at some of the amazing giraffes that we produced using coloured pencil. Next we will be drawing Highland cows and using oil pastels as our media.

Primary 3b have been very busy!

P3b have been very busy this week and last week.

Last week outdoors, we made shapes with sticks and put cubes into them, to identify angles in shapes.

This week, we made numbers with sticks, and put cubes into the numbers to show where the angles were and how many they could find.

This term, for science, P3b are working in the STEM room, exploring forces. We have been working with magnets and investigating whether or not materials are magnetic. They have been doing a lot of research and investigation.

Welcome back Primary 3c!

Primary 3c have settled quickly back into routine after the Christmas holidays! We have been enjoying getting to know our new teacher Miss Young and we congratulate Miss Harris on the birth of her new baby girl Valentina.

We enjoyed working with our music specialist today!

Today during our outdoor learning time we used natural materials to create our spelling words! We also did some handwriting through finding patterns in nature.

We have started a new social studies topic of the Celts and we are looking forward to finding out more. We have also started a new class novel ‘The Invisible Boy’.

P3c having lots of fun!
