P7 a&d crack the code

Primary 7 transported back to war times to explore methods of communication during the 1900’s. They used Morse code to read secret messages and crack the clues. Then they transferred this skill to making their own cryptic messages and clues and enjoyed cracking each-others.

Well done P7 🙂 Another very productive day! Keep up the Excellent Effort.

P7 investigate decomposition

Energy sources & Sustainability:

Decomposition rates game. P7a & d had a great morning, in the sunshine, classifying waste materials into categories. They then sorted them according to how long they predicted it would take to decompose.  They ordered the materials from quickest to slowest decomposition rate.  Then they matched the rates of decomposition to each item from a list.  To conclude, they discussed and evaluated the findings in their groups and as a class.

Another fantastic investigation boys and girls, well done 🙂

P7a and P7d continue their energy investigation outdoors!

This term, P7 are investigating renewable and non-renewable sources of energy. This week they have been learning how energy can be harnessed by the flow of water over their own homemade water wheels. To follow up their solar power experiment, today they have explored hydropower as a form of renewable energy.

Well done everyone! With a little convincing to keep a positive “I can do” attitude, you got there and really enjoyed seeing the result of this experiment. Keep up the good work.

P5c handle data outdoors!

We have been learning all about data handling.  Having discussed the variety of ways used to represent data, we can interpret and draw conclusions from the information displayed.

Today, we worked collaboratively in groups of four, to gather and present data.  We used this data, outdoors, to create graphs using outdoor materials.

What great fun we had! Look at our amazing pictures.

Well done Primary 5c! You did an amazing job today.

Have a happy October break to you and your families 🙂

Poetree

Primary 5A enjoyed using their Technology and Literacy skills to create poems about trees. We looked for inspiration using all of our senses and worked as a group to record them with chalk, mud ink or by spontaneous performance!

Outdoor Learning

Primary 5a had their first Outdoor Learning experience of the year. It poured with rain but we were wrapped up and had a ball. We looked for inspiration in nature to create some artwork but mostly enjoyed exploring our environment and finding puddles to jump in!

Measurement

Primary 4a are learning to estimate the length of objects and then select the most suitable instruments to measure them. They applied the skills they had learned in the classroom to the outdoors. They worked in a team to discuss the best possible strategy to measure larger objects in the playground and Chestnut Garden.

The also used non standard units to measure the girth of trees and can explain the advantages and disadvantages of using standard and noon standard units of measurement.

Chloe, Kulsoom and Sara are working together to discuss the best way to measure the width of the plant pot/

This team are discussing how close their estimates of the length of the wall are to what they measured. They were very close!

The boys agreed that using a measuring tape was the best tool for this job!

P3b enjoy the sunny weather!

P3b have been very busy this week. We took full of advantage of the good weather today and got outside.

PE – Tennis

Today, we worked on controlling a tennis racket.  We used backhand and forehand stroke movements.  We used tennis rackets, bean bags, tennis balls and hula hoops to practise our control and hitting skills.

Outdoor Learning – Literacy

In the outdoor classroom, we used chalk to practise our spelling words.  We challenged ourselves to put the words into a sentence.  We then gave each word or sentence a value and calculated the total at the end.

HWB – Gardening

P3b have really enjoyed the opportunity to do some planting.  They have planted onions and they are really looking forward to planting some more.

Well done P3b. Keep up all the hard work!

Have a look at what P3c have been doing this week!

Eastwood House

This afternoon as part of our Outdoor learning, we went to Eastwood House to learn more about our Local Area which is our topic. We found out about the history of Eastwood House and then did a quiz about what we learned.

VR Headsets

During Digital Technology Week we have been using a range of technology to enhance our learning experiences. Have a look at us trying out the VR headsets.

Local Area topic

We have been using the Chromebooks to find out about local businesses in our area and why they are important to the local community. Then we created some information leaflets about a local business.

We also designed our own business which we thought the community needed. We had to think of a name for the business, what it would sell or provide and explain why it would be important.
