Primary 4a are enjoying to build their own simple computer programs. They are working closely with Mr Harris from St Ninian’s to develop their confidence at using Scratch an online coding program. The children are using their problem solving to solve the task given to them by Mr Harris.
Primary 4a have been exploring the season of autumn this week and developing skills across the curriculum. Have a look at some of the work we have been doing.
We explored some autumn pictures using the VR headsets. We discussed what we could see with our peers and used the scenes as a stimulus for creating our own autumn pictures using different textures.
Lastly, we applied all our ideas to writing and wrote our own acrostic poems!
Primary 4a headed to the outdoor classroom for Outdoor Learning Day today! They studied the work of Andy Goldsworthy before leaving the classroom and inspired by his work they worked in groups to create their own picture using natural materials found in the school playground.
Each group cam up for a name for the piece of art they created! Have a look at their wonderful work.

Primary 4 enjoyed creating Porridge Smiles today for Mary’s Meals. They took part in the activity to raise money for Mary’s Meals and support children across the world. The children were all extremely generous and we raised over £300. Well don Primary 4!

Primary 4a are learning to estimate the length of objects and then select the most suitable instruments to measure them. They applied the skills they had learned in the classroom to the outdoors. They worked in a team to discuss the best possible strategy to measure larger objects in the playground and Chestnut Garden.
The also used non standard units to measure the girth of trees and can explain the advantages and disadvantages of using standard and noon standard units of measurement.

This team are discussing how close their estimates of the length of the wall are to what they measured. They were very close!
The boys agreed that using a measuring tape was the best tool for this job!
Primary 4a are learning that an electrical circuit is a continuous loop of conducting materials. The worked in small groups to follow a diagram to create their own circuit using simple components.
Primary 4a used their knowledge of everyday classroom objects to make estimates of length. They then used their rulers to accurately measure the items they had chosen to the nearest centimetre, recorded the information in their jotters and compared their estimates to the actual lengths.
Primary four were very lucky to be invited to a retreat organised by Father Stephen today. The children worked with Father Stephen, sixth year pupils from St.Ninian’s and volunteers from SPRED to explore the Bread of Life and prepare them for receiving their sacraments this year.
