We have started our Rhythms topic in music. We will be working on various rhythms with an aim that we can identify them on written music notation, tapping the rhythms and singing them.

World Book day
On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day with lots of different activities, we completed a scavenger hunt which tested our character knowledge, a Kahoot! Quiz, we had to design a cover for a mystery book – we had to listen to the story first and we had a visit from Mary Dickie at the Foundry who encouraged us all to join the library and get free access to thousands of books.
On Friday we discussed why we don’t wear costumes even though other schools do. Following the discussion most pupils felt that wearing the costumes was an unnecessary cost to parents.
Storytelling
Over the next few weeks we are working on our story telling skills through literacy and drama. I will be encouraging everyone to take turns to tell stories, improvised and planned. Everyone will also be involved in telling the story as an actor, following the story.
Everyone loved the first week of storytelling.

Clay sculptures
We used clay to make bowls/candle holders and something of our own design. We enjoyed moulding the clay although did find it challenging, our original aim was to make daffodils to celebrate St. David’s day (1st March).
The clay sculptures are still drying , as they are drying pupils have discovered that they have become quite fragile. As a result we’ll need to get the glue out before we wait them.
St. Valentines of Rome
Primary 5 found out about St. Valentine of Rome. He is the patron saint of Love, young couples, marriages and beekeepers.
Instead of making Valentine’s day cards everyone made a friendship card. We followed steps to draw beautiful bees.
As a treat Mrs Muscat made empire biscuits with the class during golden time.
Homework
Remember numeracy homework is to be completed by Friday and there is a second quiz which will be available from Monday.
We will then go over the answers in class on Thursday 13th February.

If you are looking to practise written addition and subtraction questions, this number generation will help by giving you various numbers which you can add or subtract. Mission 2110 is also good for practising more complex calculations.

Scot’s Assembly – 31st Jan
Primary 5 did a marvellous job of presenting the poem ‘Fireworks aff the Castle’ by Matthew Fitt. Each and every pupil spoke out confidently.
