Nursery Absence
If your child is going to be absent from nursery, please phone or email the school office on 0141 570 7260 before their start time. Although nursery attendance isn’t compulsory, it’s important that we’re informed of any absences, especially if they are unwell or have an infectious condition. Keeping us updated helps us maintain a safe and healthy environment for all children and staff, allows us to follow the necessary health guidelines, and ensures we can communicate promptly with other families if needed. Thank you for helping us protect the wellbeing of our nursery community. Continue reading

Handwashing
At nursery, we are continuing to reinforce the importance of good handwashing habits to help maintain a healthy and hygienic environment for everyone. Children are encouraged to wash their hands regularly, especially before eating and after using the toilet, with staff modelling the correct technique and providing gentle reminders throughout the day. Fun songs and rhymes are also used to make handwashing an enjoyable and memorable part of our daily routine, helping children understand why keeping their hands clean is so important in preventing the spread of germs.  We use this fun video. Here is the link in case you would like to watch it with your child at home too:

Splish, Splash, Learning Outdoors!
We encourage all families to leave a named pair of wellies at nursery so children can easily get ready for outdoor play. Our dedicated boot room makes it simple for children to change into their stored wellies and the waterproof puddle suits and jackets provided by the nursery. This routine helps promote independence as children learn to dress themselves, while ensuring they can enjoy exploring, playing, and learning outdoors in all kinds of weather.

Voluntary Contributions to Nursery Fund
Voluntary contributions to our nursery fund play a valuable role in enriching the experiences we can offer the children. While core activities are always provided, these contributions help us go further—supporting special resources, workshops, outings, and creative projects that spark curiosity and make learning even more exciting. Every contribution, no matter the size, directly benefits the children by providing opportunities that enhance their development and enjoyment at nursery. We appreciate your involvement and engagement with all aspects of nursery life and look forward to working with you again this year. Contributions can be made via ParentPay.  Thank you so much to those families who have already donated.

Achievements
We love celebrating the children’s achievements both in nursery and at home, and we’d be delighted if you could share special moments from outside of nursery too. Whether it’s learning a new skill, showing kindness, or simply making you proud, these experiences help us to build a fuller picture of your child’s development. Please feel free to send in photos, notes, or stories so we can share their successes with the nursery community and celebrate them together. Nursery Newsletter 09.10.2025

Hello everyone,

As the seasons change, we’re embracing the wonders of Autumn in our nursery. The children have been exploring the sights, sounds, and textures of this beautiful time of year — from crisp leaves to shiny conkers and pinecones.

Over the next few weeks, we will be using natural Autumnal objects in our play and creative projects. We would love your help collecting treasures from nature — things like leaves, twigs, acorns, conkers, pinecones, seed pods, or small branches. These items will be used as loose parts in our construction and sensory play areas, as well as in transient (temporary) art creations that encourage imagination and fine motor skills.

If you can, please bring your finds into nursery in a small bag or box, and we will add them to our Autumn collection for everyone to enjoy!

Thank you for helping us make learning so rich and connected to the world around us.

School and Nursery Communication
As you may know, in line with East Renfrewshire Council’s Education Department’s advice, we no longer use X to share school and nursery events and photographs. However, we thought that this would be a good time to remind you of all of the platforms that we do use to keep you up to date with school and nursery news and your child’s learning.

Friday Bundle
Each week we send school and nursery Friday Bundles. These contain all non-urgent communication for families. If you miss any, we also upload and store them each week on our Netherlee website.

Social Media – Instagram
We are delighted to announce that, in line with East Renfrewshire Council and also many other schools, we are now using Instagram as our social media platform. We are very excited about this and hope it will offer an engaging and accessible way for parents, children and families to stay connected with life in Netherlee

Safer Schools App
The Safer Schools App provides parents and carers with reliable, up-to-date advice and guidance on online safety. Key benefits include:

Community Engagement
The children have been interested recently in firefighters, so there is a visit arranged soon for Clarkston Fire Service to share what their job involves and how they help our community. If you, your family or a contact of yours would be willing to offer their time to visit our nursery to share their skills or teach us about their hobby or profession, please let us know.

Nursery Newsletter

Hello everyone,

Thank you to those who came along to the family learning sessions  this week with Mr Strang Roy and Mrs Toman. We hope you found the session informative and picked up some additional ideas on learning through play.

Upcoming Events
Please have a look at the parent calendar, available on our Netherlee Website, to see all the dates and times of the various events coming up.  This link will take you straight there https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/sandnc/calendar.

A Message from Netherlee PTA “Coming Together For Our School”
We would like to remind you that completed Cauliflower Cards forms are due on Thursday 25 September. However, if you were not able to complete these by then, we ask that the forms are handed in at the nursery/school office not later than Tuesday, 30 September.  Join our Facebook and Instagram pages to keep up to date with our activities.

Chatter Café
All nursery and school parents and carers are very welcome to come along to our Chatter Café on Wednesday 8th October from 9:15am until 10am in our school Hub. This is an extremely informal opportunity to chat to members of the Leadership Team and to meet other parents and carers to share your thoughts and ideas about any aspect of Netherlee life! You’ll also be able to enjoy some tea, coffee and delicious home baking, made and served by a group of pupils too! Please do pop in if you can- we really look forward to seeing you.

Head Lice
It is always a good idea to periodically check your child’s head for any little creepy crawlies. We have lots of useful information on this in our website so please click this link if it would be of help to you.

Small Toys
Could we politely ask that children do not bring toys and wear ‘special beads, tiaras and jewellery’ to nursery. When favourite toys are kept at home this avoids upset if they get lost or broken.

Scarves and Hats!
We are on the lookout for interesting scarves and hats that can be used as open ended role play materials. A scarf can turn into a cape, coat or dress with imagination. Please think of donating these items to us if you are clearing out your wardrobe in preparation for the change of seasons.

Parental Feedback
Over the last session, children, parents and staff suggested a tree as an appropriate image to represent the growth of our children and their learning. The torch in the centre of the image is taken from the centre of the school badge representing the light of inspiration for learning and a link with the school community. Please add your comments to our post it board in the foyer.

Restart a Heart
You may have heard that ‘Restart a Heart’ and the ‘Scottish Government’ are having a livestream cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training event soon. This will be held online on Oct 1st 2025 and is led by Scottish Ambulance service. A video containing some of the children from our school carrying out CPR will be part of this online experience. We as a school and nursery will be running a live event later in the year where the children will be able to learn how to do CPR again with trainers. The online event is running from 9am in the morning until 9pm at night and all school and nursery classes will be dropping in at some point during the day. We thought this would be a great introduction for some pupils and children and a nice refresher for others.

We felt it was helpful to share this information with you at this time. Continue reading
