Nursery Newsletter

Hello everyone,

Thank you to those who came along to the family learning sessions  this week with Mr Strang Roy and Mrs Toman. We hope you found the session informative and picked up some additional ideas on learning through play.

Upcoming Events
Please have a look at the parent calendar, available on our Netherlee Website, to see all the dates and times of the various events coming up.  This link will take you straight there https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/sandnc/calendar.

A Message from Netherlee PTA “Coming Together For Our School”
We would like to remind you that completed Cauliflower Cards forms are due on Thursday 25 September. However, if you were not able to complete these by then, we ask that the forms are handed in at the nursery/school office not later than Tuesday, 30 September.  Join our Facebook and Instagram pages to keep up to date with our activities.

Chatter Café
All nursery and school parents and carers are very welcome to come along to our Chatter Café on Wednesday 8th October from 9:15am until 10am in our school Hub. This is an extremely informal opportunity to chat to members of the Leadership Team and to meet other parents and carers to share your thoughts and ideas about any aspect of Netherlee life! You’ll also be able to enjoy some tea, coffee and delicious home baking, made and served by a group of pupils too! Please do pop in if you can- we really look forward to seeing you.

Head Lice
It is always a good idea to periodically check your child’s head for any little creepy crawlies. We have lots of useful information on this in our website so please click this link if it would be of help to you.

Small Toys
Could we politely ask that children do not bring toys and wear ‘special beads, tiaras and jewellery’ to nursery. When favourite toys are kept at home this avoids upset if they get lost or broken.

Scarves and Hats!
We are on the lookout for interesting scarves and hats that can be used as open ended role play materials. A scarf can turn into a cape, coat or dress with imagination. Please think of donating these items to us if you are clearing out your wardrobe in preparation for the change of seasons.

Parental Feedback
Over the last session, children, parents and staff suggested a tree as an appropriate image to represent the growth of our children and their learning. The torch in the centre of the image is taken from the centre of the school badge representing the light of inspiration for learning and a link with the school community. Please add your comments to our post it board in the foyer.

Voluntary Contributions to Nursery Fund
Voluntary contributions to our nursery fund play a valuable role in enriching the experiences we can offer the children. While core activities are always provided, these contributions help us go further—supporting special resources, workshops, outings, and creative projects that spark curiosity and make learning even more exciting. Every contribution, no matter the size, directly benefits the children by providing opportunities that enhance their development and enjoyment at nursery. We appreciate your involvement and engagement with all aspects of nursery life and look forward to working with you again this year. Contributions can be made via ParentPay.  Thank you so much to those families who have already donated.

As always, we are always here to help in any way we can, whether that be about your own child or a more general matter in relation to the school or nursery.  We are also always looking for suggestions and new ideas so please don’t hesitate to get in touch at any time.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Restart a Heart
You may have heard that ‘Restart a Heart’ and the ‘Scottish Government’ are having a livestream cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training event soon. This will be held online on Oct 1st 2025 and is led by Scottish Ambulance service. A video containing some of the children from our school carrying out CPR will be part of this online experience. We as a school and nursery will be running a live event later in the year where the children will be able to learn how to do CPR again with trainers. The online event is running from 9am in the morning until 9pm at night and all school and nursery classes will be dropping in at some point during the day. We thought this would be a great introduction for some pupils and children and a nice refresher for others.

We felt it was helpful to share this information with you at this time. Continue reading

Nursery Newsletter 15.08.25

Hello everyone,

A very warm and sunny welcome to our new and returning children and families!

The children have settled well and are making lots of new friends. We have a focus on building relationships with your children and the wider families. Please take the opportunity to share any information from home regarding current interests and achievements at drop off or collection time or email us via nursery mail. This helps us get to know you all and to celebrate achievements, languages and skills.

Social Media
In line with East Renfrewshire Council’s decision to no longer use X, our X account is no longer monitored. You can access our online content on our website. We will be back in touch soon with our new arrangements for sharing the work of the nursery and school.

Sun Protection
Thank you to parents and families who have already supplied sun protection cream, we would be grateful if all families could do so please. We politely ask that parents apply sun protection cream, when needed, before dropping their children at nursery and staff will reapply.

Parental Involvement
We would be very happy to hear any suggestions of how parents and families could offer their time or skills in any way eg to support play, gardening, storytelling, reading. We would appreciate any time you could offer. Please just let one of the staff know or email nursery mail and Mrs Toman will happy to chat to you.

As always, we are always here to help in any way we can, whether that be about your own child or a more general matter in relation to the school or nursery.  We are also always looking for suggestions and new ideas so please don’t hesitate to get in touch at any time.

Nursery Newsletter 16.05.25

Hello everyone,

What a week of sunshine, stay and plays, bread making, outdoor experiences and sports to name just some of the activities throughout the week!

Upcoming Events
Please have a look at the parent calendar, available on our Netherlee Website, to see all the dates and times of the various events coming up.  This link will take you straight there https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/sandnc/calendar.

Sharing the Learning and Progress
We hope you enjoyed the stay and play sessions and look forward to speaking to all parents/carers who have signed up for a parent consultation meeting. The appointment sheets are in the foyer for you to choose a suitable time and date.

Sun Protection
Please remember to apply sun cream before the morning drop off and our staff will reapply around midday if the UV rating is 3 or above for that day.  The children are becoming more aware of the benefits of staying safe in the sun by applying cream, wearing appropriate clothes and remembering to pop on a sun hat before going out. We always encourage the children to drink fluids throughout the day to stay hydrated.

Lending Library
If you have any special interests for books for our mini Lending Library in the front foyer, please let us know and will find some suitable titles. The handy bags are there for you to use…borrow one, borrow three…we value reading for pleasure at home and in nursery. The children all have favourites that they like to hear over and over again and often use parts of these stories as a stimulus for their imaginative play. Feel free to stop and have a chat with Mr Strang-Roy or our keyworkers about the joy of reading together.

Donations Welcome
As we are always looking to improve our school and nursery environment, we have recently embarked on a community mural project to brighten up our “Cage” area. Pupil designs have been shortlisted with many members of our school community (parents, staff, pupils and local businesses) having their say. As we look to get started, any donations of outdoor paint would be gratefully received, to help to bring the vision to life! If you are able to donate any paint, please do so to the school office as we look forward to getting our latest project underway.

Parent Consultations
Thank you to all those parents who have already signed up for parent consultations with our keyworkers or nursery teacher. The appointment sheets are still in the foyer for you to choose a day and time that suits you best. We look forward to sharing all the progress with you.

Woodland and Local Walks
Over the next few weeks, we will be going for walks in Linn Park. Children will be offered this choice as part of the ongoing provision and we will display a reminder on our noticeboard and in the foyer. The children get so much from connecting with the natural world with friends, exploring the local green spaces and being out in the community learning about local shops and business.  We also plan to visit the local care home to sing a few songs and have a chat with the residents. The children and residents enjoy these visits and offer a great opportunity to practise conversation skills. These local walks are already covered by the local outing consent forms completed by parents and carers when children start with us at Netherlee. We are sure that the children will share their learning with you when you discuss their day!

Sports Week
Our annual sports week is fast approaching and we have already started to make plans to ensure this is a fun and exciting week for all children involved. We have been very lucky in previous years that parents and carers have come in to deliver sports sessions and presentations to make this a very memorable week.

If you have experience of coaching or participating in a sport, dance or any area of physical and mental wellbeing (Yoga, Pilates, Meditation) or you have links with a local club or group, Mrs Linn would love to hear from you! You could even come in to share a sport or activity from a different country! Please email nurserymail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your continued support.

Planned Menu Change – Thursday 22nd May
Please find attached our planned menu change for Thursday 22nd May. The allergy information is included to enable your child to select a suitable option.  However, if you require further allergy or dietary information, please contact your catering team via the school office.
