Maths Week Treasure Hunt

We have lots planned for maths week in P3/2 and today we took part in our first activity….a maths treasure hunt.

We were tasked with going around the school following a treasure map and looking for QR codes. We then scanned the QR codes with an iPad and it gave us maths questions that we had to answer. P2 and P3 had different questions. We then worked together to solve them and find the treasure!

P2 first had to find 5 pens and 7 pencils and add them up to see how many they had altogether.

P3 jumping on the spot and counting in 5’s up to 100.

Listening to our next instructions from the STEM leaders…

Both years were asked to find as many shapes as possible in the gym hall….we learnt that everything is made up of 2d and 3d shapes!

Scanning a QR code with an iPad.

Writing number lines on the ground in chalk.

P3 had to use stones to make shapes.

P2 had to use sticks and leaves to make shapes.

P3 and P2 had to solve horizontal calculations on the ground using chalk.

P3 had to use a meter stick to measure the MUGA.

Harris found the treasure map!!!!!

Jewellery Making

Today we got to draw our Zentangle designs onto our shells. It proved quite tricky as the shells were so small so we had to make sure that we used a sharp pencil to keep the detail clear.

Then Mr Maxwell came and showed us how to safely use a drill to drill holes in the shells for the string to go through.

Sadly some of the shells broke when we were making the hole in the  shell but we showed our resilience and just designed a new one and tried again!

When the holes were finished, we got the make them into necklaces or bracelets by threading in the string.

As you can see, we were delighted with the finished results!
