The Grinch Comes to Busby…

The children had a huge surprise this morning when they came in to discover that the Grinch had made a mess of the classroom! The board was covered in wrapping paper and our elf, Sparkle, was taped on the front too! We couldn’t believe how much toilet paper he had left everywhere… what a naughty Grinch! Excuse our blurry action shots… we were too excited to keep still for the camera!

The fun didn’t stop there either, we had a busy morning decorating our milk bottle lanterns for ‘Busby Shining Bright’ and then we enjoyed a virtual pantomime from Eastwood Theatre in the afternoon.

Le sapin de Noel…

P1 had a fun afternoon learning some French Christmas vocabulary and decorating our own ‘sapin de Noel’. Then, at the end of the day, we had a very special visit from an Elf called Sparkle. He will be with us until the Christmas holidays and he will be looking to spot any acts of kindness in class.

Electricity

P1 have been learning about electricity this week. We learned that it is a continuous flow of energy and we used a special ball to demonstrate what happens when the flow is broken.

We had fun playing games that show the flow of energy in a circuit and we sorted items according to whether or not they use electricity.

Next week we are going to learn about staying safe using electricity.

Health and Wellbeing Week

Today we have been learning about feelings. To begin with, we acted out various emotions and then we created paper plate faces with happy and sad expressions. Miss Paisey and Miss Wight presented us with some scenarios, for example, ‘I worked really hard in Numeracy’ or ‘I have no one to play with at lunch’ and we had to show whether this made us feel happy or sad.

Can you guess our feelings here?

Numeracy

We have been  working very hard in Numeracy this week.

Some of us have been learning to subtract. We had lots of fun playing subtraction smash and working out our calculations.

We have also been sequencing numbers to 10 using the Numicon and discussing the concept of bigger/biggest and smaller/smallest.

Loose parts play

We have really enjoyed exploring the loose parts and natural materials in the tuff tray this week. We developed our skills of categorising, sorting, counting and we used lots of great vocabulary to describe the shells and stones. We especially loved listening to the ocean in the sea shells!

Happy Halloween!

Primary 1 have been working on the skill of printing in art this term. We used apples to print Halloween pumpkins and then we drew on faces with felt pens. The end results looked fabulously spooky!

We have also been printing with foil and sponges over the last couple of weeks to create a beautiful Autumn display – keep your eyes peeled for photos coming soon!
