Nursery Nativity

We were invited to watch the nursery nativity today and saw lots of younger siblings and friends from Mearns Masters.

We were so impressed with their singing, actions and acting. They were fantastic!

We are enjoying rehearsing for our nativity and look forward to welcoming all parents and carers on Tuesday 18th December.

Santa’s Elves

Christmas is in full swing in Primary 1.1

We are working hard in the workshop making toys for boys and girls who are on Santa’s good list.

Next we use our wrapping skills to gift wrap the toys.

Then we put our presents under our Christmas tree.

We enjoy serving and eating Christmas dinner next to our cosy fireplace where our stockings hang.

Art

Today we went to the Art room for the very first time in Primary 1. We were very excited.

We were learning to observe patterns and create our very own.

We had to listen carefully and take responsibility. We all had important jobs to do.

We decorated our stockings with patterns and drawings using ribbon, oil pastels, glitter and felt.

We were pleased with our creations 🙂

P.E.

We have been learning many new skills in P.E. with P1.3. We enjoyed rotating around the stations and our teachers were impressed with our focus and energy.

The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy

We took part in the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy project. It is a forest conservation project which is committed to raising an awareness of the value of forests and saving them for future generations as well as planting new forests. This is what we did with the help of our older buddies. We planted oak, elder, cherry and roman trees 🌲

KAPLA

Kapla is our new wooden construction.

The KAPLA concept is simple. Each block is simply placed one on top of the other. The blocks are held in place by gravity and balance alone.

Pupils are free to build, create and experiment by using their own imagination.

We built a table and chair.

Look at my Christmas tree.

This is a KAPLA shop.

We built a house.

So far KAPLA has stimulated team work and cooperation. We look forward to observing the children grow in confidence and ability with KAPLA.

Numberlines

We have been enjoying adding with concrete materials and today we started to explore numberlines. There are different styles of numberlines in our playground and we had great fun jumping our addition calculations.

After we had explored the numberlines outside we tried using our mini numberlines inside.

Due to our experience of learning outdoors we were confident adding using our smaller numberlines.

Trip to the Cinema

Today we went on our first school trip to the cinema 🎥

We were going to watch ‘Paddington 2’ however, due to a technical glitch we watched ‘The Grinch’ instead. It was super and made us giggle.

Our favourite scenes from the movie:

‘I liked it when the Grinch stole all the presents.’ Daisy

‘I liked the part when the Grinch changed his mind and liked Christmas.’ Sali

‘The best part was when he gave all the presents back.’ Caleb

‘I liked the part when the Grinch was dancing with his underpants on.’ Ben

‘My favourite part was when the dog fell into the snow.’ Ayana

‘I liked it when the Grinch fell down the cliff.’ Callum

Symmetry

We have been further exploring symmetry in the treehouse. First we began by identifing symmetry in the environment. Next we made symmetrical patterns using concrete materials.

Then the teacher showed us how to cut symmetrical crocodiles, birds and butterflies and we decorated them.

We felt very proud of our creativity.

We also matched symmetrical shapes and used smart pals to complete pictures to make them symmetrical.
