Our class trip to the Scottish Parliament

On Wednesday our class went to the Scottish Parliament. The Scottish Parliament was in Edinburgh. We travelled there by bus. It was a very long and noisy journey!

When we first arrived we had to go through security. We had to take off our jackets and bags and put them in a plastic box which was checked by security. Then we had to walk through metal detectors.

We went into a room where a lady told us about the history of the parliament. We each had an item and we had to figure out what is was and then tell the class what it was used for in the parliament.

We were all given a lanyard to wear so that when we were walking around the parliament building, people knew we were allowed to be there.

We got split into two groups. The first group went to the debating chamber. It was cool and very big. This is where people vote for new laws. The lady showed us how MSPs vote.

The second group went for a tour around the building and we got to look at the designs in the building. Then both the groups swapped over.

After that we met two members of the Scottish Parliament and we got to ask them questions. It was interesting to find out what they had to say.

At the end we had our lunch and travelled back to school.

Judo fun!

Hi there,

In primary six we have been taking part in Judo sessions. Primary 7 also do judo at the same time as us.

We have to change in to our PE kits and take our socks and shoes off too! We all stand on a huge big mat with our partners and copy the judo instructor. We have been learning cool flips, tricks and kicks, it has been really fun. At the end of the lesson we play a game called Lan Ci. We have to copy the instructions and if we get it wrong we are out. The judo instructor makes the game tricky but funny too.

School Pantomime

This week we had a school pantomime of CINDERELLA! It was fantastic, especially all the music and songs. There were 6 characters but only 4 actors. All the classes were seated in the hall and split up into two sections, half on the left and half on the right hand side with an empty aisle in between for the actors to run up and give high fives to all the children! Everyone agreed that is was by far the best pantomime ever in our school!

We all hope that our pantomime next year will be EVEN BETTER!

Primary 6 Alton Farm Project

On the 7th of October our class went to St Cadocs Primary School to begin our new school project together with the three primary 6 classes at the school. The project is called the Alton Farm project and we will be working on this till the December holidays.

Firstly a women named Ana lead a presentation about the new school, mostly about the playground. We were excited to know that we are going to have monkey-bars and climbing walls in the play area of the playground. Next we worked in groups with other P6 children to answer questions about what we know and what we want to know about the project. At the end of the day we took part in a design activity.

We look forward to taking part in this project and working with other children from St Cadocs.

Just Dance

For PE on Wednesday we were supposed to be doing hockey outdoors but because of the awful weather we had to stay indoors and instead we did JUST DANCE. Just Dance is an online video exercise where you copy the dance moves to different songs. We loved the Bollywood dancing the most. We also had group dance competitions (it was really tiring). We had so much more fun than we had thought.

Yom Kippur Play

Hi there!

Our blog this week is about our Yom Kippur play. Yom Kippur is a day of forgiveness. On this day we go to the pond and say Tashlich. We also spend most of the time in the local Shul. It is important that on this day people do not wear leather shoes, makeup or perfume.

In two weeks we will be presenting our play to the school and our parents. We need lots of practise to remember our words. Hopefully by then we will have mastered it!

The Festival of Eid

This week some of our pupils were off for Eid. Eid was on Monday the 12th of September. It is a religious festival of sacrificing meat! It is called Eid al-Adha.

It comes from the story of when a man travels up a hill to sacrifice his son when is ordered to by G-D, but as he was about to slay his son an angel stopped him and he sacrificed a lamb instead!

Many of the children celebrating spent the day dressed in their best clothes, going to the mosque for prayers, visiting family and friends and eating lots of yummy food. Some got presents and money too! They also gave meat to each other to represent the lamb that was slayed.

And that’s the story of Eid!

Over and out!

Our new school

On Monday the 5th of September a big big BIG builder and a woman came to our school to tell us about safety on our NEW school site. Soon all of the classes will visit the new school site so we must know how to stay safe when we are there.  She talked about the types of machinery used. Some of these are:

  • bulldozer
  • digger
  • wrecking ball

She also talked about what we need to wear such as a yellow vest and a hard hat. We are all very excited to see our new school!

Diversity Day

Hello and welcome to our Primary 6 class blog!

On Thursday the 1st of September our class visited the Barrhead Foundry to take part in Diversity Day. There were two other primary schools there too. They were Carolside and Netherlee. When we got there we were split into groups. Some of us went to Bollywood and Israeli dancing, some went to sports and the rest of the kids went to the faith stalls where they learned about different faiths and religions including Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism, Christianity and Islam. At one of the stalls we were allowed to try on different types of Indian dresses. We had to complete a quiz to see how well we had remembered the information about the different religions. At the very end we got to decorate our own mugs with things we learned during the day.
